2D game on VR screen request or impossible?
Would it be possible to start a 2D game on the curved screen that steam big picture uses on the DK2? So nothing fancy, just the regular 2D game, but on the oculus screen. Literally just a 1-1 mapping of the 2D game onto the oculus curved screen that big picture vr uses...

Possible? impossible? difficult?

Take a look at this: https://developer.oculusvr.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=8182
This might be able to solve your problem..

Thanks. That is kinda a solution, but I think a native steam solution would be better right? I guess I just liked the curved screen setup that they have in steamvr right now and it's jarring to load up a 2D game (most games!).

Someone on Reddit posted a link to a guy called Jim talking about this problem on Youtube, it was informative, but the Jim guy, who looked like he really knew what he was talking about, only talked for a few seconds about using the VR screen as a 2D monitor...

If anybody is interested I can find the link.

I would also love this feature. Not sure how hard it would be to acheive and if developer would have to do extra to get it to work. If thats the case not sure how good it will catch on.

Not hard at all. It's basically what Steam In-home streaming already does. Better question if that's desired :) resolution of DK2 pretty sucks for this and even SteamVR is.. a bit uncomfortable as it is "big" and you need to turn head hardly to actually see anything.

But in principle.. with better HMD.. no problem.

I'd like to play a lot of 2D games this way. You don't have to turn your head to see everthing, it's just "front-row-cinema" by default. Easiest way is just to sit back, relax, and enjoy seeing things from a bit further.

I really want it, even if a regular desktop will give much better experience at the moment. It's a pain to remove the Oculus and reposition myself each time I want to launch a new app. SteamVR has been fantastic at allowing me to explore all I want with the HMD on. Navigating the window through just a controller is a pleasure and makes the experience much smoother for me. Plus, the less reason there is to remove the headset, the better the application.

I don't know if it's possible (I can see a lot of issues), but I do want this feature.

Yes, I came to the forums to ask this as well... 2D games on the curved screen would be wonderful! I hope they impliment it.

There's also VorpX and Vireio, but those are more for 3d-ifying 2d games. You just want a 2d game up on a screen like watching a movie in Whirligig or MaxVR right?
