No substitute for horsepower
Have had some serious tracking issues with my Vive from the day I got it. I tried every fix and
suggestion posted on various support forums but no joy. Could only game for 5 to 10 minutes before grey screens and juddering (if I was lucky) Long story cut short my i5 3570k, GTX 970 and 16g ram wasn't enough to keep the Vive happy even though they passed the Steam vr test fairly high. Upgraded to i7 7700k, and a GTX 1070 and now runs as solid as a rock. I thought posting this here might save some poor soul tearing their hair out for a month like I did. I know some people have had pretty good results with 3570k & GTX 970 but not I. Cheers Dave.

Totally agree.. the thing for me was I hadn't expected a system that passed the vr test was the root cause of all my problems. Happy now though, although not a cheap exercise. Dave.

Sound to me like the main issue was the CPU, i got a i5-4670K and GTX 970 and most things work just fine, even that as of late i do want to jump to the highest ranks to try some Super Sampling :D:

I actually upgraded to 1080 SLI on the Devil's Canyon 4790K with 32 GB ram. Was using the 980 Ti Lightning card before that. I will say this, just 1 of the gtx 1080's roflstomps the 980 Ti in VR. The 2nd card interesting enough is useful for titles that are non-vr that can be used in VR Virtual Desktop and VorpX, as it adds extra brute horsepower to allow the game to run in the VR experience, where a single card doesn't suffice. Take for example Guild Wars 2. If you run this game with Tridef 3D and the HTC Vive, you need 1080 SLI to run the game successfully at 1080p resolution.
