Mines - they suck.
The main thing I don't like about mines is that, other than using an area effect type weapon (grenade, some of the psi powers), even if you know exactly where one is, you can't get around it without:

A) Walking over it (ouch... especially when there are multiple mines)
B) Using up psi and/or grenades to get rid of it
C) Putting a bunch of skillpoints into traps - and if you haven't yet, well you're kinda hosed. Go reroll... ;P

So far I like the game except for mines. There don't seem to be enough ways to deal with them, and I certainly don't have the resources at this point to be tossing grenades about with abandon, or the psi powers to deal with them otherwise... and without a fair bit in traps skill, apparently you can't even see where they are either... would think perception might help with that?

What I'm hoping for is some "other" way to deal with them - my character is a gunner/sneaker/lockpicker... and he's been stuck a couple times because of mines. Maybe we could use burst fire a couple times on the spot we know there's a mine or something??

In any good RPG there's always several ways around an obstacle, and so far this game seems to be pretty good about that stuff...

...and then there's mines. ><

Hepl?

huh.. i never had to walk over any of them, as long as you manage to detect them, if you walk around them slowly they wont go off

Detecting all hidden things (including mines) is based on your Perception attribute, so yeah if you have decent Perception all the mines will be detected and show up for you when your reasonably close. Then you can either walk around them, or if you have decent Dexterity/Traps you can disarm them yourself.

I'm surprised that you're playing a gunner and you didn't max out Perception at character creation, you really ought to have 10 in your primary combat stat, so if you're using Guns=Perception, Psi=Will, Melee=Strength/Dexterity

I will add an alternative means to deal with the mines for characters that did not invest into the Trap skills or very high perception. It will probably be some battery powered device or some such that will require you to spend some resources to run it.

I dig it, would be fun as heck to have a little deployable "spawn neutral creature." robot that just runs around like crazy or walks infront of you. Ah but that gimimk would be sucky, waiting 30 minutes for it to roomba around everywhere. Maybe taking a hostage "hostile" and forcing him through intimidation to reveal trap locations, or walk infront of you. Oh so many possibliities.

Howabout something simple, like shooting the mine?

First time playing, so I wasn't sure what to expect, made a jack of all trades. Strength is typically tied to carry capacity in RPGs, so I actually increased it a bit, but that doesn't seem to be an issue so I guess I can use it as a dump stat and pump perception, and look to see what other stats I can use for dump stats :)

Some sort of device would be handy, maybe a metal detector that will show you where they are and let you shoot them to blow them up? Although I have to admit, a swarm of lil spider bots that run over the mines and blow 'em up would be fun ;)

I just hate getting stuck with no way to progress :\ Don't have the health to walk over mines usually (I died prolly 30-40x before I survived once to get the disc...), and without jacking perception getting past them wasn't really possible :o (The other way was blocked by the swarm of mutants)

Thanks!

lmao, I love that, can we please take hostages in the game. Thats so funny, I would play the game all over again just to take everyone hostage and walk them threw areas I planted mines. Or better yet just feed them to some mutant frogs while im fishing >;D

There are goggles that will increase your detection level (which is also effected by the perception attribute and the traps skill). Very useful for minefield areas, wearing them will also increase your chances of noticing secret doors to hidden areas. They are sold by Ezra in SGS and a number of merchants in Junkyard.

What I miss is after disarming the mine, I did not get to keep it! I was really expecting to be able to use the mine after I disarmed it, sigh.

you do if your skill level in traps is high enough.
