Jack Quicksilver Quest (Minor Spoiler Alert) Tip for New Players
Jack be nimble, Jack be quick. Wow, this guy is a total d*ck. :)

I noticed there was not a thread on this topic so I decided to create one for the newcomers to the game.

///// Spoiler Ahead \\\\\

Simply put, Jack Quicksilver is a lying thief who is only using you to cover his own butt. I made the mistake my first time around of accepting this quest in the beginning and not being able to complete it due to my low level character. When you attempt do this quest, it will make the completion of the SGS Compound mission very difficult because of the "roadblock" you will encounter along the way. What I ended up doing when i did this was exporting my lvl 4 character and importing him into a new game... I tried not to spoil too many details of this mission but I hope this prevents newbies of experiencing the same frustration that I dealt with. Good luck and happy hunting!

I killed them just fine at level 4 8P Its best to stealth towards them, wait until they start to fight the rathounds then kill the most dangerous bandits first. I know Styg has plans to nurf these bandits because they can be a very tuff fight at low levels. I honestly think he should leave them as is. I know its kinda tricky and stinks to die from them, I did the first time too but then it makes you learn from that mistake and figure a way to beat them.

I really hope Styg brings us some content from where ever Jack is from. I so wanted to go to the hub he spoke of. I searched for it for a bit then figured he had not developed that part yet.

Yeah I do not think the Hub is in-game yet unfortunately.

Back to the topic though, I almost had them beat on 3rd or 4th try but I just figured to hell with it and grab 1-2 more levels on the next play so I could really tear them up lol. It all counts toward my characters overall level for the finished product so I didn't really mind starting over again.

Anyways Caeser, I know they can be beaten at lvl 4 but the point of the thread was to try and steer the new and inexperienced players clear of getting frustrated with this part. I didn't want them to get irritated and say the game is too difficult which I have already seen people saying.

To my next point. I remember reading before that your character was mainly of a PSI build. Could this have made you superior to these bandits in combat? My character was of a Gun based build wielding a measely 5mm pistol and I know that PSI can be much more powerful than that. Just curious if you think that might have given you the upper hand against these bandits. Let me know what your thoughts are on that please. :)

Please don't take anything I said the wrong way Caeser. I appreciate your comment, experience in the game(far beyond mine from what i've read) and you being a fan of this great project.

I managed to beat those guys with both PSI and Gunner builds. PSI guy was my actual firsht playthrough and I encountered thise bandits at lvl 1 XD. That was bloody harsh fight with dosen reloads, finaly I just tossed a frag grenade and finished them with PSI.
As a Gunner I started with grenade not even trying to kill them solely with gun.

The thing I don't like about this quest is that if you actually go along the quest line and speak with bandits you'll have your butt handed to you before you can make a single shot, cause bandits initiate the combat. So you have to shoot on sight, technically not knowing who are those guys. Same happens in SGC Compound final battle.

No worries man we all have our opinions or tips to playing this great game and I will never have a problem with something like that. I was just teasing you a bit ;) and yes I have a very good PSI build so my guy can survive most situations but I over came these bandits at level 4 on my firearm build as well too. I understand why you posted this thread and think it is a good thing to help other new players.

Just to give you a tip, it is always best to go into an area stealthed and to put yourself into combat before attacking. This way they do not get the first shot off. Also these bandits the first time you see them are usualy fighting the rathounds from on down a ways. Use that to your advantage as well but if you wait to long this oportunity will not be there again until the rathounds respawn.

Enemies in this quest ended up being a bit too tough considering how early the player can encounter them and how they can roadblock them from accessing GMS, so expect them to be toned down in the next version.

Yeah, and you still have to attack them before they turn out to be hostile. First time I encountered them, it felt almost as if game teaches you to shoot first, then ask questions :D

Way tuff so I left it alone for a long time, exported my character and finally got through that. Until I got past them i thought the game was too limited.

Yeah, they're a bit tough. I had to make a few trips to the doctor while fighting them. Running up and down was a bit annoying.
GrimJack Dec 4, 2013 @ 10:33am
Heh, now they are just punk-notches on my pistol. I do dislike the trudge back to the doctor.
