Quest journal not updating?

Perhaps I'm missing something. I'm at the beginning. Got sent to shoot a rathound with a special bolt and collect a tissue sample. I did it, got the sample in my inventory, but the journal isn't updating.

Same thing with the shooting range tutorial quest. Got told to get ten hits, end the session and report to gorsky. I'm doing it and it's not updating.

Not sure what to do next.
