Multiplayer talk
Discuss anything releated to multiplayer here.
Here is what one of the developers had said about online multiplayer from a recent Reddit AMA ...

The question: "David, are you still interesting in adding online/network multiplayer to Overgrowth, and if so how do you envision it playing out with the extremely quick nature of the combat?"

The answer: "I am still thinking about online. The Overgrowth combat system would actually be more lag-tolerant than most, because there is less timing required for attacks -- just for blocks. It might be possible to use some tricks with that to make it pretty resilient. The biggest issue is not theoretical, really, it would just take a lot of development time to refactor the engine to make it appropriate for online multiplayer, so I don't want to spend much time on that until the single-player is done."

Try and keep posts the least bit positive and on topic. :D All other topics posted about multiplayer from now on that aren't posted here will be merged just to help avoid spamming of the same topic.

This game would be an easy $30 buy if it had MP, however, with out it, I do not see this being worth $30 as a indie game.

Could anyone explain how I can set up a versus match with 2 gamepads? I'm totally bewildered as to how to do it. I can't seem to find any posts/vids anywhere online >_<

I don't think multiplayer combat is a good idea for overgrowth because on how timed the blocks and attacks are, but I think a multiplayer foot race mode should be added.

they should add a game mode were a "thef " has to steal a piece of loot, and escape with everyone trying to kill him (hopfully spears wont be allowed if they do make this) this would be brilliant as it would give a chance to fight and flee from a constant force of enimes, making use of the combat & the platforming in one game

the thief would probably score by getting to a safezone ( or just surviving?) and the guards would score by killing the thief

or have an individual point counter for each player and score by killing the thief and stealing items as the thief ,with the person who kills the thief in the last round playing as the thief in the next round...if that made sense

Online Multiplayer would be awesome, perhaps they could just implement a simple versus mode or 1v1 like they have now to do some testing? then add some challenge like scenario gameplay to the mix..

Well I see his point but this is also kind of a jerk move I would be all for the price being lowered a bit but as you know it is a indie game and it's kinda hard to produce but yeah I would totally throw in money once I get some for a fun new like smash type game with other game modes possibly the parkour foot race idea is also cool sounding

I agree, so long as Overgrowth consists of combat "versus" on the same PC, combat against AI, and parkour, it doesn't seem worth it.
However, if a solo campaign and a multiplayer were to be added, I would gladly pay 50 bucks for it (by the way, a coop campaign would be the icing on the cake).

But we should all bear in mind that, as much as we yearn for all this to come true, it is unlikely to happen : wolfire is only a team of 2 devs that do what they can ; their priority is to finish the gameplay/solo campaign and debug before release. At least, that's what i've been induced into thinking.

I dont care. The possibilties that the creators have developed would suffice for me on any level just because they actually are giving it time and a great creative effort; multiplayer or not.... Though muti would be amazing. I enjoy creating object add-in's on the maps alone right now.
ridickinson Mar 15, 2014 @ 5:38am
More word or less: I can wait for this game to come to a conclusion at anytime. The more time the creators get the better the outcome of a better game that is already almost in existence... uuuuuh yeah...

I just can´t stop thinking about a RP mod for Overgrowth! (maybe a bit like "dark rp" or "PERP" in Gmod, but without modern day weapons). Reading Wolfires comics and watching the Habitation videos etc made me think of the characters as intelligent creatures rather than just mindless fighting machines. A server full of rabbit citizens? Now that's something i'd like to see!
