No-one needs this game. It is entirely unessential. It is, however, pretty fun.
This is a top-down third person shooter, and, most importantly, the mechanics work pretty well. It's fun to shoot the many different monster types, especially once you upgrade your weapons so you have a range of different strategies you can take. The game is fairly easy (and quite short, about 9 hours), and if one part feels too hard then it's time to work out another strategy, at which point it'll probably become quite easy again. I do like the variety this provides, though, with the stealthy bits being particularly fun but rather short.
The graphics in-game are not so awful that it takes you out of the game, and there's a nice use of light and shadow, which improves the atmosphere. The music is absolutely awful, the kind of dross that Eastern European rock kids toss out when they first get access to a synthesiser. You can turn it off but it'll come back on during cut-scenes. The cut-scenes are pretty painful as it is, with terrible voice acting by the bland characters advancing a forgettable, and ultimately, nonsensical story. I do quite like the back-story you pick up by reading computer terminals dotted around the map, although a lot of it is fairly poorly written.
I should say that I didn't come across any bugs, apart from one room where the cut-scene at the end showed I should have endured some bullet hell and in fact I got one measly alien I finished off straight away then wandered around aimlessly for a few minutes. Sometimes if you accidentally do things in the wrong order then you might miss part of the story, but I'm pretty sure it won't be too big a loss. The friendly AI is bearable, if a little annoying when they get in your way, but at least they can't die and will attract enemy fire - although you can argue this brings you out of the reality of things a bit.
In short, it's worth it if it's on sale for a quid or whatever, but you have to wonder if you want just another game clogging up your steam library. It is, however, a nice little game that is fun whilst it lasts.
