"Join game" in friends list not working?

I'm playing almost only co-op, most of the time with the same friend. Strangely, I could always join his game, but he could never join mine. After some days we found out that I always used the in-game lobby to join his game. He tried to join my game by choosing "join game" in the Steam friends list. While the game would then try to connect, it would always run into a timeout. When we realized this, he tried to join my game via the in-game lobby, and that worked. Joining has been working fine in both directions since then.

(We're both playing on linux.)

Does anyone else experience this behaviour?

My co-op partner is away for some days, but I'll send you the log as soon as he gets back.

Type: Network issue

Description/How to replicate: Connecting to a game via the Steam Friends List does not work, i.e. the "connecting to game" dialogue pops up but after a while the game states "disconnecting due to timeout". Connecting to the same host via the in-game lobby works just fine.

i'm astounded my kid can create game and I can join him, but when I create and he joins, we start and have brown screen with arrow pointer and we cant ever start????

athelasloraiel: This can be for many reasons, without a debug log it is near impossible for us to figure out why. http://steamcommunity.com/app/249990/discussions/0/792923683637174491/ Has some things that can be tried to help connecting.
