When you click play open the game launcher rather then playing the game. Click configure, then on the left save games, last click the copy mass effect 1 save games and find the folder your saved games are in. You should only have to do this once.

When you click "Play" on Steam, a dialog should appear letting you launch the game or another options. One of the other options lets you configure the game, and there you should find an option to transfer your datasaves from ME1

In case anyone else can't figure it out:

Click Play in Steam and you will see this[i.imgur.com]. Click Mass Effect 2 Launcher then click Play.

You will then see this[i.imgur.com]. Click Configure.

You will then see this[i.imgur.com]. Click Save Games, then click the Copy Mass Effect 1 Save Games button.

You will then see this[i.imgur.com]. It should already be on the correct location but if for some reason it isn't browse to My Documents > BioWare > Mass Effect > save so it looks like the picture in the link and click ok. You won't get any confirmation that it has done anything but it will work as long as you have save games in there.

Launch Mass Effect 2. On the main menu click New Game and you should see this[i.imgur.com]. Click Import ME1 character and you should see your ME1 characters there to choose from.

I bought ME1 and ME2 recently, and I wanted to do this BUT. My save folders cant be found, not to mention my directory looks completely different. EA support is unobtainable, so im relying on help from anyone here.

Ive looked through the files meticulously and can't find anything that would look like a save form me1 at all.
You saves are actually located in you My Documents folder, in Bioware/Mass Effect/Save. You will have to launch the config feature as explained above or by going into the Mass Effect 2 install folder and launching the MassEffectconfig program located in binaries and pointing them to your completed Mass Effect 1 saves.
