Pretty fun game, if you can appreciate/stand a cheesy, over-the-top 80's action flick style experience (both in the humor and the game itself). It's a spectacle fighter with fairly decent gameplay, very good for the price point, I'd say. Think God of War centered around Rambo's black cousin.
A lot of the attacks don't really feel like they have a lot of weight to them, especially with the Whip, because the enemies don't really react like they were hit or get staggered in any way. The attacks certainly at least look pretty though, and some combos feel very satisfying. Generally the combat system is fairly fleshed out imo. There are a lot of combos and each of the four weapon types has their own combo system.
My biggest problems with the game are the camera and the fairly frequent crashes. Unless I missed something you have no control of the camera at all. It generally gets the job done but often picks some angles that wouldnt exactly have been my first choice, and sometimes gets kinda awkward. And the game definitely has some stability issues. I don't know if it just hates my machine, but I'd say I crash probably once per 20-30 mins. The games usually fun enough for me to relaunch it and keep going though. But I do strongly advise you to make frequent saves. The checkpoint system is generally alright but doesn't to add more buffers in case you crash (or fall into a pit in a platforming section).
Other less major complaints would include a few turret sections that I didn't love but at least they weren't THAT long or overly frequent (think i've had 3 in a couple hours of gameplay), a few kinda annoying QTEs but again not that many or very long. I could have also lived without the audio-clips from Marlow's girlfriend but I think they can be skipped if they bug you enough.
The game does have some puzzle and platforming elements that you may or may not enjoy. Persnally I thought the platforming was just challenging enough to not be boring but it didn't get frustrating or overstay its welcome. If nothing else the companion makes a few funny remarks when/if you fail. The puzzles so far have generally been pretty simplistic and I could live without them but can also live with them.
Generally I'd say I've had a pretty good time with the game, and the positives have outweighed the few problems I've had with the game. The gameplay is pretty enjoyable and I personally rather like the humor with the banter from the companion, the villain, and the occasional 4th wall breaks. Got it on sale for like $1 and I definitely got my money's worth.. and then some.
