Do units with pistol only have any compensating value?

I realise that pistols have advantages; they can shorten aim/reaction time around corners and in tight spaces and they might be quieter. However, since the pistol-equipped trooper carries no primary and is short on firepower, does he have any compensating advantages, like being able to carry more flashbangs, etc.? Thanks!

At the moment no advantages except the ones related to the weapon maneuverability. And faster walking :)
