Suggestion: Consolidate the Shield class into the Pointman
Since the Pointman can only carry a pistol anyway, it makes sense to me to just have the shield as an equipable item for that class that disables all the other equiptment. There's probably a mechanics reason that it wasn't done this way, but it just came to mind while playing around with the shield.

Good idea! The only thing that needs careful balancing is the pistol accuracy while using the shield. Right now, the low stopping power of 9mm somewhat balances the extra protection of the shield but merging both classes would allow to equip pistols of all caliber. The 1911 or the HK45 are really powerful so unless they become really inacurate/slow to fire, the combination shield + .45 would OP the class. I support your idea and I think it 4 classes are enough anyway.

Or just make the shield equippable by pointman so we can still choose pointman.

I think there is more to be added in the class specific area, maybe there will be body armor and the shield class can equip the heaviest kind, where all the other classes might not be able to. I am sure they have something like this planned for the future. I do think this is a great idea in the state the game is in now though :D

Body armor are yet planned for future alpha.

Negative, I don't think we will. The question is, is there something that you find wrong or annoying about having two separate classes, or do you just think it will be more efficient to have them consolidated?

The reason we probably won't do it is classes are more like presets that will save and you can recall at a click - you'll be able to do so directly from the deploy screen, without entering the customization screen.

The two setups seem similar but you may use different setups (armor, flashbangs etc) appropriate for them, and it will be a PIA to switch the setups completely just to activate the shield.

What are your thoughts?

I expressed my toughts on your forum: http://inthekillhouse.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=1033&start=10#p4863

- Shields: please consider the ability to equip silenced pistols or even a uzi. And if the shield is breaked, if the swat member is still alive, use it as a pointman. Also consider the ability to unequip the shield permanentely during a mission, if the situation change and a "storm" tactic is required by circumstances.

So, for me: ok, mantain the two classes, and please consider what I said some lines up.

Fair enough.

My thought was that the shield's role seemed to basically be an uparmored pointman, so why not just make it as an option for the pointman. Also, since I saw that team members gain XP and rank, I had thought they may be able to get role related specilizations in the future and it would be simpler to combine the 2 pistol only classes. Of course, that may not be at all planned or may go a different directions completely.

Seeing that the classes are considered more as presets than role descriptions, it would make sense to keep them as seperate classes.

I'll have to disagree with two of your suggestions. First, If you are using a suppressed weapon, your main task is to eliminate the target before he opens fire so no point in using a shield. Plus, you hold the weapon with just one hand and look through a small window, your accuracy isn't the best in a situation when you have to take letal shots. The Uzi is impossible to keep stable with on hand or without using a buttstock.

+1 on the permanently unequip the shield. Yes, I want it dropped to the ground because none of the shields I've ever seen had any kind of straps so it can be carried on back.

Devs already stated that is actually unbalanced. Will be changed in Alpha 9.
