Totally understandable - we are doing our best to get more info out. A more in-game heavy video or a playthrough will be created soon.

Well the game you are referring to is free for the first few hours in the campaign and all the PvP part. After we took over from the publisher (the game was work for hire) we got rid of the premium currency and all other p2w-like elements.

Since then we went indipendent and created a new IP with Ærena so we can do everything the way we think it is right. However, I recommend trying JAO also, it is a decent turn based game in m opinion (yes I´m biased, but I played it hundreds of hours as a tester and never got sick of it, that probably says something about it ;) )

The best defence of JAO you can mount is;

1: The tutorial and PVP is free.
2: It was a work for hire.
3: It is decent and turnbased.

Any rationals person´s reponse to this will be this:
1: A free tutorial? That you do not have to pay for? Sort of like a demo? Thank you SOOO much.
The Pvp is free. Again thank you. We have the opportunity to get ganked by pay to win players. That growns old VERY fast.
2: Have you heard the story of the lady of the night who went mad? She heard the other harlots got paid.
This is not an excuse for molesting of the Jagged Alliance IP yet again. The fact that Cliffhanger got paid for this perversion of a great classic IP does in no way leviate the fact what a quick glace at the forum will show.
This "game" is a stinker. A simplistic moneygrab. Dragging the IP of Jagged Alliance in the mub.
Feel free to defend Cliffhanger and this "game" as much as you wish, the customers and reality disagrees with you.
Don´t believe me? Check the forum...
3: Turnbased it is. Decent it is not.
Be honest now, if you compare this to JA2, what game is better?
Both you and I know the answer.
And we both know the reason Cliffhanger were OK with releasing a subpar game. That they knew were subpar and inferior to its predecessor.

They got the money and are now working on Shadowrun (another paid for IP) and whatever they think this will be..

Cliffhanger might think it got away with a rectal violation of a classic IP once.
The only problem is, some of us respect the classic games.
We have a long memory.
And we vote with our wallets...

From what you write it looks as if you didn´t play it.
Anyway, I am not starting this discussion, because it doesn´t belong here.

Lets conclude that you don´t like what we did so far.
It is easy for everybody else to make an opinion for their own, since the game is still available.

You would be wrong in your assumption.
But that does not matter, as you want this to stop ASAP.

Funny thing, it seemed to belong when you were defending JAO, but not when I replied.
But that does not matter, as you want this to stop ASAP.

Both you and Cliffhanger know that I am FAR from the only one that do not "like" what you have done so far, as you put it.
But that does not matter, as you want this to stop ASAP.

And with that, the conversation dies...

I think it is true JAO could have been better. We have had a lot of negative feedback to JAO (also positive one) - I think it would also be fair to say this comes from the direct comparison to JA2 - and the hope for it to be a successor, which JAO is not nor was it meant to be. I don't want to argue about how bad it was in one person's eyes vs another person's eyes, as this is indeed more sensibly done in the JAO forum.

The business model is controversial and the one thing I can say is: One of the reasons we did AERENA the way we did it to be able to offer a different model, that does NOT produce the same controversy.

The fact that so far most people on here have been very positive about AERENA might indicate that we have learned from previous experience. I would let the players be the judge of that.

Finally, we were not "ok" with releasing anything. JAO does not fully belong to us and the problem is a BIG part of much of the issues we have ther. I don't want to shout you down or anything, but some of the assumptions on your side are made without the full knowledge of the facts in the background.
