Invite a friend?
Currently, one of the biggest problems is the ack of a large player base (there are others, but the wonderful devs fix them fast) so, I think there should be a reward program for inviting friends.
for example, I have one friend I want to play Ærena, and upon trying it, he gets hooked and plays it all the time. when he reaches ten hours (or makes his first in-game purchase) we both get a skin/champ (depending on what we have) and a unique master image for inviting friends. the logic behind the requirements to get the rewards is as follows:
10 hours: a good sized amount, enough to make sure that people won't create bots to get them stuff, but not too much the it looks daunting to achieve, a number hat can be reached, but not by a secound acount easily.
In-game purchase: money goes to devs! they are hooked, and the devs got money. time for a reward.

I really like your idea =)
This would be awesome!

Yeah, incentives like that would probably be a good idea. The player base really needs to grow a bit more!

Thanks Kirk for the good idea!

Maybe you can remeber, I tried that manually a few months ago and unfortunately only a very small dedicated core community actually recruited.
To be honest, I don´t have a lot of faith in an incentivised friend invite system.
If you think the game is great, a steam review and word of mouth help a lot, but having some acquisition and reward mechanisms instantly feels like the average facebook game does that stuff.

Not entirely related, but hilareous:

however, I am sorry to be vague again, but we have another big change planned for aerena, probably a lot bigger than the perma shell thing. More news about that very soon!

Cheers

Bigger than that, eh? Must be launching from the browser...or a new game mode...?

Is it campain mode? The greyed out button keeps taunting me every time i log in.

Could be getting the cross-platforming in... but I'm not sure that's 'big' in the same way that perma-shells is big. It'd be big behind the scenes, but not really to players. Likewise, custom rules private matches, but again, that's not as big as perma-shells. So I'm betting on that campaign.

Also, just about every game runs invite a friend bonus programs, it's not really a facebook thing. Even games you have to buy or subscribe to will allow a version with a week of free play. To me, it comes off as simply 'free' advertising, just paying people in game rewards. Doing it manually might not be worth the effort, and I imagine it might take some time to set up an automated system to avoid bots and other abuses, so it's probably not the kind of thing that can be done quickly.

And Ill say I've been referring friends for quite a while, I was just too lazy to get into the manual steps to get rewards when you offered them :D I'll be bugging all my jerk friends to come back once shells are permanent! Greedy jerks.

I´m not ready yet to reveal, sorry :)
But it is not campaign mode.
We will launch perma shells next Thursday and around this time there will be a new publishing partner from Japan, which will be really cool! I expect some new faces emerging in aether masters really soon :)
