For me it was when I was let off the leash from the linear missions and was really given the time to explore the town. Then all of a sudden 5 hours had passed and I had spent the whole time finding and interrogating suspects all on my own.
When you are given time in between missions, don't just sleep to advance the plot, sleep however much you need to, but then spend the intervening time just exploring the town. There is a ton of interesting stuff to do.
If you rush through in a nonsensical matter a little over 15 hours, if you take your time about 40 - which can be expanded since there are free roam parts: http://howlongtobeat.com/game.php?id=2354 To stabilize the game you should use dpfix and sweetfx (latter one is for increasing the resolution and improving the colors since the devs left them cold dead - check the screenshot comparisons)): http://steamcommunity.com/app/247660/discussions/0/648811126894901541/ Have fun with it since the game´s worth it. I had the same experience with Sleeping Dogs: first was not so convinced then ended up with 60 hours of gameplay. Have fun with the game!
Did you know Twin Peaks, before playing this game?
Because describing it as Twin Peaks: The Game is really all that needs to be said. All the criticism about stiff and weird characters, acting? That's a Twin Peaks trope.
If you are, then don't follow internet culture down the drain: it's the console wars generation which hates on everything that's not their favorite toy.
DP's shade of Twin Peaks shapes pretty well as the investigation progresses, and the finale wraps up things arguably better than Lynch. Not to mention that the noble Twin Peaks was marred in filler we try never to talk about.
Beat this game and you'll remember it forever.
Awesome! I'll be sure to come back here to let everyone know if and when I get to the point of loving the game. Thanks for the encouragement!
I consider myself one of the world's biggest Twin Peaks fans and I loved this game. It's definitely not a ripoff.
1) Avoid combat: 99% of the otherworld encounters can be skipped, if you just run and hold your breath.
2) Don't just rush to the next mission objective. Try to investigate the murder on your own, it greatly enriches the story and nets you a lot of side missions.
This way you'll enjoy the Shenmue part of DP much more than it's inferior Resident Evil 4 part.
Probably re-playing it very soon. 'tis a shame that theres no sequel for this or that the main guy behind it doesnt have the rights to tune up the game more.
