Just downloaded Portal 2 Perceptual Pack.. won't work, crashes soon.
Everything else works for me. It will load the Valve loading screen with the man and a valve in his head, then the rest of the sponsor screens, then I crash immediately to desktop with no window describing what happened. Nothing out of the ordinary is showing up in my event viewer pointing to anything game related. Any ideas?
Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 3.4ghz/6GB DDR2/7870GHZ 2GB 1100/1300 core/mem, and the game in on a fast, reliable working SSD drive. Thanks for any help!

Is it true that you have to have a 200-300 dollar piece of hardware to play this version?
TheRavenOo Feb 21 @ 3:27pm
no? if you read the system requirements you can see, that you don't need any special hardware..
TheRavenOo Feb 21 @ 3:31pm
and if you mean these 3d depth camaras, than i know, that they are only a optional component (:

"System Requirements
Minimum:
OS: Microsoft Windows 8 / Windows 7 with Service Pack 1 or higher
Processor: PC or laptop with 2nd Generation Intel® Core™ processor or higher
Memory: 4 GB RAM
Graphics: Video card must be 128 MB or more and should be a DirectX 9-compatible with support for Pixel Shader 2.0b (ATI Radeon X800 or higher / NVIDIA GeForce 7600 or higher / Intel HD Graphics 2000 or higher).
DirectX: Version 9.0c
Hard Drive: 8 GB available space
Sound Card: DirectX 9.0c compatible
Additional Notes: Camera Required: Creative Senz3D Depth and Gesture Camera"

"Additional Notes: Camera Required: ..."

I did read the requirements AFTER I downloaded it... and it appears it requires extra hardware.

Like I have been saying, I get through the developer logo's, like, Valve's man's head with a valve in it, etc... then my game immediately closes. I have plenty of hardware to play this game. Q6600@3.4ghz (quad core), 6GB RAM, it's on an SSD, an Audigy 2, and a 7870GHZ overclocked.

So, I guess I will be deleting this to free up space on my SSD, because I'm not paying 200-300 dollars for hardware to play a 6 hour game lol.

From the store page or community hub page, one:
Portal 2 Sixense Perceptual Pack is a free stand-alone game, developed with the Intel Perceptual Computing SDK, custom-designed for exclusive use with the Creative Senz3D depth and gesture camera, which is required to play this title.

Key note "required". The Creative Senz3D depth and gesture camera....is required to play this title

I realize Portal 2 probably doesn't require this, I haven't looked, but this must be a special version of the game that DOES require this piece of camera hardware.

So, to finish this post and answer my own and other's questions...
You can not play this version without the 300 dollar camera hardware.

Are you being sarastic about what I said? Because... if I can't play the game without a $300 camera, why would I keep it?

If you are being sincere, I understand, man. They need to change their store page for this game... because unless you "already know" you need that extra hardware, it's not easy to find on the page that you do need it. It is literally the last "required spec" listed.

It's like "dual core cpu
2GB RAM
xx HDD space
dx compliant GPU
oh yeah, and a $300 camera only for this game"
