I haven't played much since I just played enough to get the cards and to move on to Digital fast so I can play normal games. It's ok but not sure I would really go back to it much.
I haven't played multi or played the board games so I can't answer that.
The 4th ed. main game is very similar to the 2nd. All the same board spaces, characters and cards are present, but updated for balance. Also, the addition of Fate allows you to spend a new type of currency to reroll dice. So apart from rules tweaks, Revised 4th (base game) is nearly a 1:1 conversion of 2nd ed regarding characters, cards, etc. In short, if you buy Revised 4th ed, you will be getting a modern version of the exact game you grew up with.
The expansions are a different story!
The 2nd edition had 6 expansions. Two - Expansion Set and Adventure - have not been reprinted under the same name, but some of the characters and cards have made their way forward through the various versions. The Timescape expansion has never been reimplemented at all.
The other three - Dungeon, City, and Dragon - were reworked into 3rd Ed. with two additional regions: the Dungeon of Doom (includes Dungeon and Highland), City of Adventure (includes City and Forest), and the Dragon itself. The 4th edition takes these 3rd ed. expansions (except no Forest yet!), reworks them further, and sells them individually (Dungeon, Highland, Dragon, City... Forest next?) These are the "big" 4th ed. expansions.
The Revised 4th ed. also has unique "small" xpansions, such as The Reaper. All Revised 4th ed. expansions include a combination of new and classic characters and components.
So, the complete collection of Revised 4th ed will have: an updated 2nd ed. main game attached to almost all 3rd ed. expansions and some unique "small" expansions.
Thanks, very informative :)
