OSX Demo; Feedback
Greetings everyone!

In the interests of getting a working Mac/OSX build of Viscera Cleanup Detail going, we've created a free demo you can try out.
The download for which can be found on IndieDB here.

If you're trying out the demo, please, please leave your feedback here!

I would also like to mention that it is vitally important that anyone testing the build attempt(if possible) to connect to other players in multiplayer. The primary reason for this build is to either confirm it works in MP, or does not. So if it's not tested thoroughly enough with multiplayer, then there will sadly be no full version.

So, with that all in mind. Please have a crack at it if you can and leave your feedback here.

Thank you.

NOTE: The demo does not feature any Steam networking, so connections would have to be through Direct IP connections, and they'd need to be port-forwarded(Ports 7777 and 27015), etc. Alternatively via LAN.

NOTE2: Cross-platform MP will not work. So this Demo is incompatible with the PC version, the PC Demo, the Mac Beta, and both of the separate spin-offs.

In multiplayer? Or just the demo itself?
How well was it working?
Did you manage to connect to anyone, or another Mac?

trying it out right now, Will report back.

Edit: works pretty well, I can't test the multiplayer unless theres someone willing to host a server, other then that the only minor bug is probably when ever I exit the game, the game itself freezes.

it might be my old mac though

running yosmite OSX 10.10.3

I'm not sure if we are doing it wrong, or PC to Mac connection doesnt work, but the IP address connection isnt the easiest thing for someone like myself to figure out.
So if it was done right (the person i tried connecting to THINKS he gave me the right info) then I could not connect to my friend who has a PC version (not demo). If someone is willing to do some IP mumbo jumbo, I'd have an easier time figuring out how well multiplay works. I only have a mac and was happy to hear there was at least a beta so if my testing helps me play with friends, by god i'll try testing.

Unfortunately cross-platform MP will not work, but may detect a connection attempt.
You can find out your public IP address using https://www.whatismyip.com/
As long as your friend gave you his public one, then that'd be correct.

Good to hear. Yeah, that's a known issue, not sure how to fix that one yet.

Oh.... so not even a LAN connection would work? since it said 'Mac-demo' and 'PC-demo' i thought that it'd work ok, since i dont think the steam version for PC is a demo is it? Maybe im crazy.
I'm just worried there will be a lack of testing since if I was a normal person I would wait to buy the game once its fully out and released to buy it on Mac but I saw you made a beta and was so happy I bought it anyway.

Yeah, the Mac is incompatible with any PC versions; full or demo.
The Mac Demo however is free.

OSX: Sierra (10.12.1)
Game Version: v1.09

  • Couldn't open due to "The application “VisceraCleanup” can’t be opened." (Fix[superuser.com])
  • When unticking windowed mode, the game doesn't change to fullscreen.
  • Mouse sticks to bottom of game when changing to another screen.
  • Game doesn't quit properly when select 'Quit' from the In-Game menu.

Main game still works though :D

I can confirm multiplayer works. For my first test, I hosted on my Mac Mini and connected with my roommate's Macbook Pro. The Macbook was able to connect, but VCD crashed shortly thereafter, leaving an uncontrolled janitor in the hosted game. For my second test I reversed those (Macbook hosting, Mac Mini joining) and was able to play for about five minutes without incident. My third test restored the original setup, and that worked too.

Hmm, interesting!

Thanks for the info.

So it's crashing in network games. Was five minutes the best you were able to get, or did it last longer the third time you tried?

Hi there!
First of all - thanks for all the effort. The game’s fun as hell and I really do hope we’ll see the official port for this game soon :)

I’ve been testing it with my gf (she was thrilled when she found out about this btw :D) and here’s what we’ve find out so far:

- window mode switch doesn’t do anything, as mentioned before
the resolution is set automatically depending on dock and the bar on the top, and those always stay on top, even when I try to set resolution manualy. Also, the mouse cursor won’t leave the window, so I can’t switch to fullscreen that way either. That’s probably intended, but annoying nevertheless :D

- both triggers didn’t work on either of our gamepads. All of the other buttons work fine, so that’s a bit weird… (2x xbox 360 wired controllers). Therefore, we didn't get to play splitscreen.

- when playing through direct IP connection, it works fine..when it works :D On the newer machine (MB Pro Retina 13" mid-2014 running 10.12.1 Sierra), the app frequently crashed seconds after joining the server, followed by a pretty standart “app quit unexpectedly” error pop-up. Once or twice we got lucky and played for 2 hours straight, without a crash, but I honestly can’t tell you why. We didn’t change anything, I don’t think. On my fairly old machine (MB Pro 13” early 2011 running 10.10.4) this doesn't happen.
It only seems to happen when joining multiplayer; when playing solo, everything works without a hiccup.

EDIT: This indeed seems to happen for whoever is joining the server. We just tried to host a game on both machines, and both machines only experienced crashes when joining, not hosting the server. It only took a few seconds each time, which now makes me wonder about how we managed to play for two hours yesterday. Also, seconds before the app crashed I noticed that some controls, specifically mouse, space for jump and esc button, became unresponsive...while I could still move with WASD, switch tools, etc.

- As a host on the older MB Pro, I had a different problem. my character suddenly “died”, for no apparent reason. It just dropped to the ground, and after a few seconds, I joined my server as a new character with the same name, followed with a number. This happened twice during our game, so my name was “Bob 3” a think. The server kept running however, and my gf could still play. There aren’t any enviromental hazards that could kill you, are there?

- After finishing the cleanup and going into office, I started to experience severe freezing, to the point where I needed to just force-quit the app. When going to the office from the menu, afterwards, everything seemed to be ok.

- This is a very specific issue, but…this is what you get for making a port for Apple users :D The second mouse in the house is Apple Magic Mouse (the sleek white buttonless one). The problem with using this one was that, like, every second time you try to click on something, it will switch the tool, as if you’re swiping/scrolling, not just clicking. That’s pretty much the flaw of the mouse, I know it's not supposed to be used for games... but there’s no option to turn of switching tools with mouse scrolling in the menu (there are only numbers) so we couldn’t prevent this from happening. But again, I get this is a bit ridiculous to even mention...:D

That’s pretty much all I can remember, but I’ll post/edit if I find something new. Also, if you need any more details, just let me know. I wanna help as much as possible.
Despite all this, when MP worked it worked great, the connection was stable all the way through and we had a lot of fun with it! Even though my gf was pretty upset about the crashes, she kept trying and she litterally texted me today, asking “are we gonna do the cleanup thing after work?” :D So yeah, we’re enjoying this a lot. Thanks again <3

@Pickle Giggles
til its fixed if you command+tab out of the game and open another smaller finder window you can click on the green "expand window" button of the game app in the background and then command+tab back in. it is annoying to have to do but that banner at the top ruins emersion imo and Im sure they'll fix it eventually. one of the problems i found as well was that when pressing exit the game became unresponsive and needed to be force quit. the report was too long for pastebin so i pasted it in 2 seprerate files:
Part 1

Part 2

I havent tried MP with this trial version et but plan to. I did try it through steam and the same thing was happening where I could only join for a few seconds and then I would be kicked from the host server. When I hosted the other player was kicked after joining too.
I love this game, thank you for this opportunity

Great, thanks for the wealth of info! I'm starting to get a clearer picture of the major areas that need fixing. No idea how to actually do that for most of them yet, but hopefully something can be done.

Glad you're at least able to enjoy it!

You can die in the game in a number of different ways. In the Demo version you only have the buggy "physics/collision/crush" death. It's normal.

Interesting work-around.
I'm not sure yet how to resolve the fullscreen issue. It could be something locked away in the engine. Hopefully we can hack together a fix that can get it behaving.

This one will be hard to get to the bottom of.
We may have to get another Mac just for MP testing. Something it seems we may no longer be able to avoid.

Only my first test involved a crash. The other two ran fine as long as I played (not more than about ten minutes each, since I was working both computers myself).

I experienced something similar(although I need to test more to be sure). I've managed to get the Mac to launch two apps at once on the same machine and connect to each other. We do this on PC all the time for MP testing. Mine crashed the first time, but not the second time.
I'll be doing more thorough tests to see if there are certain levels, or situations that cause the crash, as it seemed pretty random; the worst kind of bug.

Splatter Station seems prone to crashing more than Section 8. Haven't checked the other two yet.
