Paying for better downloadspeed for updates!?
'22 hrs on record' and I have not play a single minute of the game, 22 hours used on downloading updates to make the game fully patched.

Seriously, I just used 22 hours on downloading the latest updates, becaurse steamversion is not up to date, I have a 70Mbit broardband connection, but Trainz updateservers are capped at a redicolous low speed, just to make people buy an 'uncapped' connection, why should I fork out 12$ just to get a faster download of updates?

Bad businessmodel if you ask me.

Now I have been playing a bit with the game, I actually like it, seems to be a good Trainsimulator, I still don't like the 'buy more dloadspeed' but the game I like..

1. Hiding stuff in AppData is the new Windows thing. That is Microsoft's design. Programmers could work around it but most don't.
2. Without a first class ticket you will never be able to keep up with the updates. Steam should show that an FCT is required. Although, some people claim to get by without one.

Trainz TS12 uses an old specially compiled version of Netscape to create the menus in the Trainz game. That is most likely the reason for this.
I imagine there will be many more patches to fix the SP1 upgrade.
I needed the FCT just to catch up on the fixes to the builtin content before SP1 was released.
I tried for two weeks to update Trainz before I got the FCT. The updates were increasing faster than I could download them. (This was 6 months ago when I got the FCT.)
Remember, SP1 and other patches only fix the game. The downloadable content and builtin content (locomotives, cars, buildings) are updated seperately.

It can be a very engoyable game. I am happy I purchased the FCT. It's a small price to pay.

Any price for patches that you are ENTITLED TO is a scam
and people like you allow it to continue to happen.

The Content Updates you are seeing are updates for third party contents which are not needed to play the built in sessions and the game as such. The updates are provided by third parties, and it is completely your choice to either ignore those updates, try updating without a FCT or purchase a FCT to access high speed downloads.

The game client itself, is updated and patched via Steam and owning or not owning a FCT has no affect on it.

5 kb/s 100MB per day limit. It is 10th day of update multiplayer session to actual version (v 4.0) and end of it is not near. 2 days ago session version has become 4.1 *cry*

[raptor_mode] if this is "third party contents" why my posts with questions about fast alternate p2p content update solutions are deleted? [/raptor_mode]

The fresh install contains a base copy of the content (sometimes provided by a third party content developer). You can use it at it's current state to play a Single player game. However, since the content's release date, the third party content developer may decide to release numerous updates related to their content. It could be refinements, bug fixes or even new additional content. One such example is Multiplayer gameplay. A content developer might down the track make changes to his route to make it compatible with multiplayer game play. As an end user, you still have the choice of either keep playing the built in version of the contents, or download the third party content updates or maybe even update the contents to get the multiplayer mode.

If you do have a multiplayer map, you will need to have the same content set version of the map as the rest of the players using it (which is the latest version). It is again, your choice to have an updated content set to be able to use that MP map or continue playing the SP maps.

The downloads are initiated from our service called Download Station. Which amongst various complex databasing activities, correctly indexes, hosts, filters, installs, monitors, accepts user submissions, and tags content with creater rights. This service has an incurred cost and as such, as a player you have the option to either contribute towards a fee to have privilidged access to the download station, or continue using the service as a free user with some restrictions imposed.

When we have a major release (a product or SP), we make sure it includes the latest version of all the assets. SP1 has been out for several months now. Content creaters have updated their content which are now reflected in the content update menu. You can get a more detailed list of content and the Download Station if you go to Content from the Launcher's menu.

Why would they do that when they can continue to rip people off doing it the existing way?

Do you have to register/create an account before you can use the download service ?
May I suggest to update the game as much as possible trough Steam ?
