This is the 90's do not buy this game.
If you intend to play this on MP mode you should consider that you will have to pay for an additional subscription fee or getting only an up to 5 Kb/s download speed that is never achieved.
The game itself is good if you only want to play alonefor an hour or two or if you can bare the bugs and not beeing able to update the content you bought.
Spare your coins for beer or other games that have nothing to do with auran.com.

I suggest folk thinking of buying Trainz, going to the Auran.com forum to get a much better and more constructive idea on what this game intales. Yes you pay a small fee (optional) per year/or buy a lifetime ticket if you want to access the downloadstation with better speed, but it also gives access to thousands of free, fan created content.

It can be better with steam-workshop integration

The torture of trying to download a single multiplayer map for an entire week and not being able to complete the download is unadmissible.
We can all hope for improvement. But as things are at this moment I do not see a change in the horizon.

If you buy a fct the d/l will be very quick. You say buy beer instead? A beer only hangs around for a small time and then is removed. A fct lasts for three/six months or a lifetime and you get a decent download speed. :P
Semper Altus Jul 9, 2013 @ 5:56am
I can always drink the beer at the same speed the free downloads go, it will last much more that six months :P
Planet Auran is tricking people and they know it.
KiwiGal Jul 9, 2013 @ 1:32pm
lol, I like your reply with the beer! But you are incorrect about Auran tricking people. It is well displayed at their site about the fct. It is always good to do research on any game, before purchasing.

It is true that without a ticket for the download station that access to content for this game is badly crippled. It is sort of a bait and switch in my eyes. That being said I have an annual ticket and have downloaded around 500GB of content so far.

I bit the bullet, and purchased a 3 month FCT yesterday. I had a little trouble initiating it, but it did step up the d\l speeds to what my connection will do. What i'm REALLY torqued about is that on the Auran' site, it toots 'unlimited files. unlimited bandwidth'. Much to my surprise, i get a message telling me i have reached my 100MB limit for the day!!?? In my mind, they ARE screwing us over, plain and simple.
BHawthorne Jul 22, 2013 @ 8:28pm
Sometimes their servers get confused. I get that message every once in awhile. I restart the download station and it tends to clear.

BTW, I recommend the UMR route in the download station. It's worth jsut using it alone as the main content for the game.
Chinwag Jul 23, 2013 @ 12:19pm
Seems to be working properly now. Thanks.

I searched DS for UMR, and several listings came up. Many have the same name, but dates are different. Being this is all new to me, i'm unclear what i need to get for the complete UMR route. Can you shed some light on that for me? I don't mean to hijack the thread.

Hi
When you download a layout and it's corresponding session/s with Content Manager, the assets will d/l also. I see on the UMR2014-summer and UMR2013 layout description there is
some free content from the JointedRail.com site that the author has also used. You will need to go there and d/l them seperately then install them with content manager. Just drag those cdps into the CM window and they will install automatically.
"The 2013-Summer" layout is an updated version going by the description and its session is "UMR-2913-Summer_base Session" - just to give you an idea on what goes with what. I wouldn't worry about d/l the multiplayer layouts and session unless you want to do mp.
Here is jointedrail's url http://jointedrail.com/index.php/ and just look for the freeware heading.

BHawthorne would be the better one to recommend which route and session to d/l as I do not have them, but they look really great! Oh yeah, if Content Manager's connection with the servers sometimes goes a bit mickey and says you need to validate your username and pw, and you know you haven't changed it and it was working fine previously, just close CM down and re-start it. This may need to be done a couple of times.

Thanks KiwiGal. I did manage to get the Summer 2014, but there are some 'dependancies' i need to get sorted.

Build number is given by N3V and is based on when it was done not what level it's patched up to. If the Steam patch was done after the N3V patch it will have a higher build number, fairly obvious that you can't use the N3V patch in Steam so a different one has to be compiled that works in Steam.
If you search the forum you will see this was explained last time something turned up with a higher build than the current latest version, that was a patch for 2010 released after TS12, so it had a higher build number but not a higher version.

In conclusion, Steam MUST update your game to Build 58414 because your current Build is 58488 and is an inexistent patch for TS12 ...I sent a few tickets to Steam Support but nobody cares about our problems ...
jamiechi Aug 12, 2013 @ 7:05pm
Steam build 58488 is the latest build for the Steam version of Trainz TS12 according to N3V. It would be interesting to know where you got the information about build 58414.
