Should I get this game?
I'm trying to decide whether or not I should get this game before the sale ends. I used to have one of the earlier versions and I have mixed feelings about it.
On the one hand it apparently had a huge library of locomotives to download and use, including a beautiful pair of American 4-4-0s. But I was never able to get the download to work and install these locomotives.
I hear this game has a feature where you can build your own layouts and track which sounds like fun. But I hear the sound effects are annoying and bad, the graphics severely lacking and the physics non-existent. For example, no matter how fast you drive the train it won't derail if you go round the corner. This would mean driving the train is not much of a challenge.
Also, as some reason my game had several levels that were written in German and not playable.
Also, what is the gameplay like? Is it following schedules and making deliveries on time? Is all this extra content created by the players? How easy is it to download and install new layouts and trains? Do these layouts come with their own missions and challenges?

Bit late to answer your question as steam sales are over but....Yes, in Surveyor your build your own routes and is a lot of fun. You can schedule trains to load/unload goods, passengers etc. I use the ai to drive my trains, but you can do it yourself. I do not find the sound effects annoying and the graphics are pretty good. If you go to the screenshots thread on the official forum you will see some great screenshots of routes/content that people are working on. Also there is some very good reading on other trainz subjects, including the new trainz game in the making under Trainz: A new era.
