Have you ever thought that you could kill hordes of zombies just by typing words on your keyboard?? No? Well now you have the chance!
Typing of the Dead: Overkill is about to make you improve your typing skills without any fuss or worries! Hordes of undead come at you with words highlighted underneath them, which you must then type as quickly as possible in order to kill them. Each letter you type corresponds to a single gunshot, but unfortunately there are no headshot here, so you will have to type the whole word or words in order to kill the zombies!
The story of the game does not really have anything to offer, however the funny and obscure dialogues of the characters as well as the continuous action will keep you occupied for a couple of hours, which is how long this game is….
One might think that typing and moving your character at the same time must be difficult, however there is no need to worry. The game moves the characters on its own, in a scripted fashion, therefore allowing you to concentrate on the matter at hand! Killing them zombies!
The game is separated into acts, each one of them concluding with a boss fight, where things do get trickier. Typing words at the correct moment is what does the trick here, plus you’ll have to avoid projectiles which will hit you unless you type a specific letter very fast. Not too much of a variety, but it’s still fun.
Graphics and sound resemble a game which has been produced in the last decade (this is a Wii port after all), however the narrator does an excellent job of pushing the story forward, while the voice overs, even though they lack in finesse, are so funny and insulting at times, that it is actually a blast playing this game. The sounds from the guns do get repetitive, as most of the time a hand gun is all you have at your disposal, and it sometimes cannot even be heard as its sound is covered by the voice overs, letting you wonder whether you are pulling the trigger or not.
This is not a game that will keep you occupied for long, and its replayability is questionable. The only reason for you to want to go back is either to improve your high score, or find all the collectibles which are scattered throughout the act.
With that being said, the Typing of the Dead:Overkill is not a bad game. It is actually a different and fun game, and it does have its moments. Zombie loving gamers should give it a go, as it resembles a cult B-movie where you can take part and experience some zombie killing which is quite different from what we’re used to in the current days.
