* The graphics (map and battle) are enhanced compared to other versions.
* There are no micro transactions in the Steam version.
* Not all content is unlocked from day 1. You unlock everything by playing through. There's no other way in the Steam version.
* You get all 12 heroes.
* In the Steam version, when you finish the 12 level main campaign, you unlock the following bonus missions:
- Curse of Catle Blackburn 4 level mini-campaign
- Winter Storm 2 level mini-campaign
- Rise of the Bandits 2 level mini-campaign
- Burning Torment 2 level mini-campaign
- Fungal Forest 2 level mini-campaign
- Sarelgaz's Lair solo level
- Ruins of Acaroth solo level
So basically if all you want is to play the main campaign, then the free version is just fine. If you want all the levels and heroes then get the Steam version.
Then you can decide if it's worth it to buy a Newgrounds flash game.
