Contrast issue.
Hello, I am really digging the game so far but I am having an odd contrast issue. The contrast is very high and makes the lighted areas in the game look peaked out. Lowering he brighness setting seems to lower the brightness but increase the contrast making the issue more pronounced. I have taken a couple off screen shots of this but I am unsure how to post them on this forum so far. Is this issure specific to my setup/setting or will perhaps a brightness and separate contrast slider will make it into a future revision?

Woah! That doesn't look quite right. I'll be fixing the contrast issues in future versions. For now, while ingame, press the '~' button and type in (without quotes): "GAMMA 0.5" or "GAMMA 0" or "GAMMA 1". Press enter after each, of course. Experiment with the gamma settings until one of them works perfectly. I definitely do plan on adding a gamma selection option in the game's main menu--especially useful in situations like this. I also do plan on toning down the contrast.

Thanks for getting back to me so promptly :) I tried the console commands you suggested but they only had the same result as the brightness slider. I am running an Nvidia 460 (gonna upgrade this month) and I ,of course, have the latest drivers, also running this on Windows 8.1. I hope his might help you isolate the issue. I look forward to seeing the games progression and if I find anything out in referance to this issue I'll post it here. Cheers.

My computer is also running the latest NVIDIA drivers on Windows 8.1. I do need to fix the contrast issues and include some sort of contrast slider perhaps. Thanks again for reporting the issue! I appreciate it :)

Think I'm having the same issue. I dunno if this is the right link but here goes. In case you can't tell I'm standing in front of the door to the garage in this pic. This is with the flashlight on http://cloud-3.steampowered.com/ugc/740008303430206077/72754FF2687B809BF003B7146609411A6069D337/
Also is there a way to get rid of the static/fuzzy effect on the screen? It did not look like that in the gameplay videos I looked at on youtube and I really don't like it.

The main menu's settings menu has a camera effect disabling option. I plan on adding more in-depth customization of the look of the game in the future.

It looks like you are having the same contrast issue I am seeing. Matt is quite right about disabing the camera effect. I am still experimenting with the contrast and haven't made much headway, all my systems have the same issue though, its like the ambient occlusion exponent
in Unreal's lightmass is jacked waaaay up but I got nothing solid on it yet.

Yep! That + lightmass contrast in set too intensely. Tweaking it now.

You see, that's why early access is cool. People who wanna be ♥♥♥♥♥ about unfinished games should take note.

I forgot to say that was with the brightness about halfway down. I'll try the camera effects option if I can find the right spot since the menu is a bit off.

I had this issue too.Changing the resolution settings seemed to help.

glad to see this is being looked at, came in here to post about it myself as i can barely see anything as it's either too dark or too bright! Matt, if you have some ini settings to improve things, can you share them please?

my screenshot with brightness turned up so i can actually see my surroundings! http://i.imgur.com/IFBUgh1.jpg

I have it too. When I opened the game today, my brightness was way brighter than it was when I last played a while ago. When I get close to certain walls it goes pretty much completely white, and I also have the same effect in the kitchen as the screenshots posted above me.

Other than that, everything about this game is awesome. I'm amazed this is developed by just one person. I had no idea. That's f*cking impressive.
