Why would someone named Winston Smith want to get rid of socialists? Orwell is one of the great socialist writers right?

Um... no?

Orwell wrote 1984 as a WARNING about the dangers of Communism, among other things (rampant nationalism, etc.). Same with Animal Farm.

If there's ever an example of a writer being anti-socialist, it would be Orwell. Well, maybe Ayn Rand, but she was insane.

What are they teaching in schools these days??

Because it appears in your school Socialism is the same thing as Communism..IMAO!!!!

Yes. Certain policies will have positive or negative impacts on the Membership Rates of different demographics. Encourage negative membership rates and you can eventually eliminate the demographic.

Certain demographic pairings are zero sum: if you increase Liberal growth, then Conservative growth will decrease by the same amount. Ditto for Capitalist / Socialist and Commuter / Motorist. I'm not sure if there are any others off of the top of my head.

To completely eliminate socialism, click on the Socialist page, go to the Membership tab, and get rid of policies that positively affect growth. Pass new policies that reduce Socialist growth and increase Capitalist growth.

Some demographics are set in stone. I believe that there will always be a Lower, Middle, and Wealthy class of citizens. Ethnic Minorities' membership is determined by your immigration rates, with more immigration leading to more Ethnic Minorities.

There are a few "silver bullet" policies that will basically make or break a demographic on their own, assuming they aren't heavily counterbalanced. Banning cars in cities will eliminate Motorists. Exclusively teaching Evolution will eliminate the Religious. The most lethal policy is Trade Union Restrictions, which will decrease Trade Unionist membership by up to the full 100%.

Why don't you actually read 1984? It isn't about socialism or communism, it's about totalitarianism.

Orwell was a socialist.

Orwell was a socialist who was highly critical of both Fascism and Communism as totalitarian systems. People in this thread are equating socialism and communism, or at least assuming that a person with sympathy for one must inherently have sympathy to the other. If everybody would spend less time making snide quips accusing each other of ignorance, and took five minutes to Google the topic, they would find a wealth of good writing concerning Orwell's political attitudes.

It's sort of strange that you would even want to do this in a democracy based game to begin with. To want to completely remove a method of thought by the people isn't a democratic inspired action but rather dictatorship and thought policing.

Your extreme freedom of capitlism views have made you become the monster you wanted to weed out.

I didn't say he was pro communism, just that 1984 isn't about communism.
