Identifying Items

I am probably missing something simple here, but I have 2 items that my "artifacts"-trained character still cannot identify. My Priest has the identify spell but I am not sure how to use it.
When I cast it, it doesn't ask what I want to identify. I put the items in the Priests inventory and then cast (thinking maybe it identifies any unidentified items in the inventory). Still no luck. I am casting the spell an the level 6-dice power. What is the trick to operate this spell properly?

go to the inventory and cast there. You can click on the circle of mana symbols to do so. Then you get the option to select an item. Beware that you cannot switch between backpack and inventory then, so make sure the appropriate page is open.

Also, remember that using "assay" only gives basic information about an item, such as who can use it and its general class. When you cast idenify on an item, other useful information appears, such as a weapon's damage range, a charm's beneficial effect, the cursed or safe status of an item, or what spell an amulet invokes.
