I recently bought this game myself and have been playing online with friends; it's definitely not dead. The recent price drop might have brought a new surge of players as well.

the tournaments are actually doing better than pretty much ever in attendance too, combo breaker was this weekend and that was huge for skullgirls, i think almost 200 entrants? the crowd was super hype too. as far as i can see, this game is alive and well, possibly thriving.
