Bought the beta from Humble, how would I update?
This is my first time buying a game directly from a site rather than on Steam. Steam auto updates, how would I update the direct download version?

You need to manually download the update off the Humble site. Just click the key you received via email when you purchased the game.

Oh so you just basically download the game again?, this time being the improved version

Yeah, exactly. That's what you get for getting DRM free stuff, heh ;)

Your humble purchase should have came with a steam key. Check your email.

fails with me too. did the following:

re-downloaded the game from humble page. gives the advice that beta version has run out, altho the game itself bypasses that and continues running.

tried to use the steam key again in order to get the last version of the game through steam (the way it should be from the beginning) which gives me the same outdated version.

so i'm now left with the "latest" version that still has that nagging advice, and i lose all the achievements and stuff that i should get with steam integration.

what the ♥♥♥♥?

something else:

i copied the update files over to the steam location of the game and it keeps nagging me with the "beta version has run out" screen and the game also seems broken. i can't get past the pope in the last level of world one

what happened here seriously, couldn't you guys just roll out an update over steam and leave the humble page download as a nice secondary option? why all this?

The game just told me that "this beta version has run out". If that's what you get for supporting the developers by buying directly from them instead of Steam, giving them a bigger cut than they would get from Steam, I’d really rather just pirate the game. Except, not.

So, why does a Humble key-activated game think its the beta version? This shouldn't happen.

I'll bring this thread to Michael Todd's attention.

Weird, I just activated my Steam key today. No issues, getting cards, etc.

I had no issues either. Cards dropped, the achievement for beating the first world unlocked like it's supposed to... But that was four and eight days ago. Now, it's just showing that weird message and won't let me select anything. I bet when I would let it idle, I'd even still get my last card drop. But I'd really rather play the game properly.

Anyway, awaiting response from Michael Todd. If any more information is needed, I'd be happy to provide.

The humble version of the game *should* work fully, equally as well as the steam version of the game.

What you've described are bugs, not features! >.<

@webodan, copying files seems to have changed something that has made the game think it's a beta version of the game. I've found this piece of the code & set it to be removed in the next update.

@jello, if you supported us by buying the game, you get our infinite love and you always get full access to the game, and keys for as many other platforms as we can manage.
This is an old piece of code bugging out. Email me & I'll get you a fresh steam key.
It will also be fixed in the next update.

Anyone can always report any issues to debug@electronicsuperjoy.com, or directly to me at michael@michaeltoddgames.com

This beta running out error is just now popping up. It will be fixed in the next update, and the next update will be as soon as possible.

However, I think I may have a fix.
If you can go to your regedit, and go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software > MichaelToddGames > Electronic Super Joy and look for a key called:
akzcc123
And delete it.

That should fix this.

I deleted the key but the error still shows !!

The key is restored when the game is next loaded..

What zigzag said.

I'll just wait 'til the update is live before making any more rash decisions. ;)
