What is this contest about?
The UESC wants to grow in numbers, so to achieve this goal and also to provide amusement and joy for the Space Engineers community as a whole, we decided to host a competition on a monthly basis with phenomenal prizes.
Every month, with every new contest, there will be a new topic, defining the type of your creation. If you were able to build anything your imagination can offer, then the judges would have a really tough time!
What are the prizes I can win?
The UESC is able to offer phenomenal prizes in the form of video games, or, in exceptional cases, honorary positions or actions. These video games, which are the main prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place, will be sent to the winners in the form Steam keys or download links.
All the games will come from HumbleBundle[humblebundle.com], which means that the winners will get their free games, the money goes to charity and everyone is happy ever after!
This contests prizes:
- 1st Place: Frozen Synapse Prime
- 2nd Place: Shattered Planet
- 3rd Place: Skulls of the Shogun
Construction Requirements
We are not necessarily looking for the standard pirate ship with "sails" and everything else that is linked to the Caribbean pirates theme. You are free to think outside the box and go entirely new directions.
As you guys were able to vote last month on what the topic for this month will be, this topic wont surprise most of you.
What we are requesting from you is a pirate frigate. By definition a frigate is a comparably small ship and that will affect the size restriction. The frigate should still be able to function autonomously, not relying on any other ships for fuel, ammunition etc.
It is completely up to the contestant to design the frigate in the way he likes it. That may include both a direct approach, making the vessel look rather aggressive and relying on swiftness or an indirect approach, disguising the ship as a cargo ship and then suprising the target. Be advised that these are just approaches that can be freely used but are not mandatory.
Only a relatively small crew will reside within the bowels of the ship, barely enough to handle all the weapons and maintenance. The very limited space should also be visible in areas like the crew quarters, engineering and reactor control.
The weaponry will be completely up to the contestant. This includes the entirety of the workshop mods that can be labelled as weapons. Another way to approach the armament is by using vanilla blocks and inventing mechanisms to turn ordinary blocks into projectiles.
Mothership Aspects:
Has to be out of large blocks (small blocks are allowed for interior work)
Has to have armament of some kind
Has to have at least 2 large cargo containers
Has to support a crew of 5 - 15 pirates
Has to have crew quarters
Has to have a bridge
Has to have an accessible engineering area
Has to have an accessible reactor
Can have a drone/ship hangar
Can be armored
Size restriction:
50x50x50 large blocks
Info:
The ship has to fit within a 50x50x50 cube. Exceeding that size may result in disqualification.
How will I be rated?
You will be rated on a average of four different aspects, for this contest those are: Utility, Features, Storage and Maneuverability. Each of those aspects is equally important. Bear in mind that 2 small cargo containers during a fighter contest could get you 9pts, but during a freighter contest that might result in 2pts for storage. Overkill can deminish your points, this way you will have to make different design choices. It also gives players who are not so good in aesthetics a chance.
Can I use mods?
Only a small amount of modifications are selected each month, highly depending on the topic. If you have suggestions for future mods, feel free to share your ideas in the comments.

Define bridge. I understand that this means a single room in a ship from where most of or all the crew control everything or nearly everything on the ship. Does it mean strictly an exposed, glass fronted edifice with a clear outside view, or does a safer control room placed deep inside also count if it performs the bridge function of being a single central command and control node?
Would using no mods at all be likely to negatively affect how an entry is judged?
Does 'small blocks for interior work' include functional blocks, such as small ship timers and programmeable blocks to make the ship's 'computers' more compact?

Have fun!
can we use any modded weapons from workshop?
The bridge is simply the control center of the ship. This is where the captain or pilot steers the ship, communications and navigations are handled. It does not have to have windows and can be placed deep inside the ship. This choice is up to you, depending on what kind of ship you are looking to go for.
Using no mods whatsoever would not affect your rating in any way. In fact, coming up with intriguing mechanisms using vanilla parts will actually increase your rating (for example a periscope with the ability to turn 360°), however these things are not mandatory.
All small blocks are allowed to interior work. No exceptions.
@Sungur
Yes. Choose what suits your ship best, as long as it is a weapons mod that either implements a new block or enhances the stock weapon blocks.

2x1 stairs... i hate them :)
If there is a niche that has not been covered by stock parts, then I might think about adding it ot the list.
check those stairs... instead of vanilla 2x1 stairs this has 1x2 stairs that are much more realistic & aesthetic.
but you are the boss afterall :)
exactly... we have arcade games, toilets, showers but not messhall.. :D
That one seems really fitting, a good caboose might be what is still missing on the list.
I am going to go ahead and add that one.
I'm thinking something made to look like a regular millitary frigate that went pirate along with its mutineering crew, and then had a load of extra piratey bits bolted on.
Ah well :P It's late, I'm starting tomorrow.
