Community Workaround Thread
This thread is here for people to post their workarounds for commonly encountered issues.

THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND:

This thread is ONLY for posting workarounds to commonly encountered issues, nothing else, off topic posts will be deleted and warnings will be issued.

Please describe both the issue/bug and your workaround/soloution to it as detailed and as accurate as possible.

Please bear in mind that issues can be somewhat subjective, so while a soloution to your problem may be posted, it's no guarantee that it will 100% work for you.

Any soloution present in this thread is posted "As is", meaning its up to the community to be truthful about the soloutions, Neither Keen nor the moderators have anything to do with any workaround posted in this thread and any workaround is taken purely at your own risk.

TO MAKE THIS CLEAR, ANYTHING WHICH DOES NOT FOLLOW THE ABOVE, EPSEICALLY THE FIRST LINE WILL RESULT IN A ONE DAY BAN FROM THIS FORUM.

Problem: Weak Brakes
Workaround: Don't park up / down slope, park sideways.

Problem: Black screen, "Input not supported", "Out of range", "No signal", etc.

Workaround: Switch display to full screen borderless window by editing the following part of %APPDATA%/SpaceEngineers/SpaceEngineers.cfg with notepad and changing value of WindowMode to 1:
<item> <Key xsi:type="xsd:string">WindowMode</Key> <Value xsi:type="xsd:string">1</Value> </item>

Problem: Walk up to a large rock to drill it for resources and instead you walk inside it, the drill runs but does not carve out any rock.
Workaround: Helmet closed if it is not already (or you may die) start the drill and walk forward through the rock. You will eventually drill a chunk out of the rock and come out the other side. Once that has been done you can open your helmet if the environment has oxygen. With the chunk taken out of it, you will be able to approach the rock and drill it normally.

Problem: When inside a large ship, every second the ship jitters, i.e. moves a small amount in one direction. The ship is not really moving (speed 0) but the server changes its position (or the position of your character) ever so slightly and your character will get stuck in walls or even tunnel through the ship into space.

Workaround: Unlock any small ships you have attached to your large ship. If unlocking the landing gears is not enough, just take off and hover for a while. The large ship should stop moving and you can land and relock your small ships again.

EDIT:
The workaround also works for the problem where your ship is slowing down even though your inertia dampeners are off.

ADDENDUM: ship jitters when parked are often fixed by parking on a station block, instead of parking on asteroid or planet voxels.

Problem: Interior lights make the floors appear black

Workaround: Reduce radius of the lights. My floors were black with the lights set to radius 10, I reduced it to 7.5 and now the floors are well illuminated. That's with the ceiling 2 blocks above the floor, if the ceiling is a different height it will probably need a different radius on the lights.

Problem: Rotating 'VTOL' thrusters do not work with WASD.

Workaround: Attach your 'VTOL' thruster to an advanced rotor that is on the end of a piston.

On your 'VTOL' thruster, add merge blocks.

Above your piston on the main part of the ship, have an armored section extended 1 block past your piston's minimum length, the last block being a merge block.

Create timers in sequence that:
1. Release the merge by turning it off and trigger timer 2 which has a 1 second delay. Also turn off timer block 1 at the end of it's own loop.

2. Extend the piston ~ the length of 1 block, rotate the rotor, and activate timer 3, which has ~ a 4-6 second delay, depending on the speed of your rotors/pistons.

3. Retract the piston, and turn on the merge block, and finally turn on timer block 1.

You now have a rotating 'VTOL' thruster system that works with WASD, and does not cause stupid balance issues.
Problem: Wheels disappear.

Workaround: Disable 'Trash Removal' in the World's Advanced Settings.

Problem: Your MP game crashes a lot or the simulation speed suddenly drops to an unplayable level even though noone did anything to warrant a sim speed slowdown.

Workaround: Disable auto-save. This won't fix all of your problems but the crashes become noticeable less. Just don't forget to save manually :-)

Problem: While playing in DX11, cargoships cannot be enabled even in worlds without planets.

Workaround: Create a new world with no planets*. Save and exit the world. (You can also do this with an existing world)
Navigate into your savegamefolder and open Sandbox.sbc.
Search for the string: <CargoShipsEnabled>false</CargoShipsEnabled>
Change it to: <CargoShipsEnabled>true</CargoShipsEnabled>
Save the changes, reload your world and enjoy Cargoships.

*Don't use this on worlds with planets, since there is a good chance this will corrupt your savegame otherwise.

Problem - rovers bounce up and down no matter suspension setting while not inside the rover

Workaround - put landing gears on the rover's belly, lock to terrain/voxel or station by lowering your suspension.

-------------------

Problem - Your DS gets super-lag (0.02 sim speed) out of the blue

Workaround - turn off sensors, destory sensors that are over-lapping

--------------------

Problem - DS crashes when drilling

Workaround - only use at the most 2 drills on your ship and set "Floating Objects" in your server settings to 8.

---------------------

Problem - memory leak while in space looking at a planet / station

Workaround - Remove solar panels and winodws (the multiple reflections causes the memleak)

---------------------

Problem - DS crashes while weldeing

Workaround - instruct eveyone to ONLY hand-weld gyroscopes (they cause the crash when welding with other ships)

----------------------

If I think of any more I'll post 'em.

I also found drilling the top of the rock will start it off as well.

Problem: Cannot press T to use/enter cockpit
Workaround: Press F, Spacebar is now up

AUTOPILOT BUG

THIS IS A FIX, NOT A WORKAROUND :)

Problem: You are unable to control your ship with the message "Autopilot Enabled".

Fix Steps (follow carefully)

1) Press ALT+F10
2) Toggle on "Enable Creative Tools"
3) Copy the problem grid (CTL+C)
4) Paste the clipboard (CTL+V) (click to spawn it)
5) Cut the problem grid (CTL+X)

The new grid will be without the autopilot bug and it does not seem to return which is why I'm dubbing it a fix.

Note: IF YOU CUT AND PASTE this will NOT WORK. Ensure you COPY and PASTE, then CUT.

Problem: can't connect to rotors on a single grid via merge block without destroying at least one of them

Workaround: set the rotors' displacement to the highest negative value and try again
