Well, I'm abit split on this game. Although it still runs on the basis of ♥♥♥♥ flag capturing and infinte amount on reinforcements to send. I find this game mediocre-ish.
I honestly expected to be even worse. I did at first, after the free weekend popped up I installed and played the game.
It's still obviously on a strong focus on multiplayer, but the skirmish missions have some varibles, although they re-added some of the totally-loved-skirmish-missions-we-played-before, the missions as ususal are copied and pasted in every campaign with no effort at all. Shall I talk about all these missions? Let's start off with the first mission for all the nations.
First Mission (All)
First your troops all come in through a extremely basic and repitive scene that is no where near pushing the game's engine to it's limits, they take up positions in your stupid little "field HQ" and then you defend that point for several minutes with almost no effort. The biggest threat in this little defense scenario is an armored vehicle only armed with a machine gun at best. Seconds after they retreat FREE reinforcements arrive for you to control, another squadron of troops and an armored vehicle that is armed with a basic armor-pericing weapon. Then you do the normal capture flags. Soon a fairly over-powered tank for this mission appears and is destroyed by the enemy and the game tells you to capture it. After you capture all those flags and recapture your destroyed allied tank, you defend the further most flag. At first I thought this would be atleast a bit hard, but no. If you manage to keep every tank and infantryman you recive or call in, it's basicly a walk in the park.
Second Mission (All)
If you played any skirmish mission in Men of War: Assault Squad without the DLC, this is basicly it. Infact it's the entire map and mission brought over to Assault Squad 2.
Third Mission (All)
A standard defense mission. You have basic defenses with a small squad of infantrymen and a few armored vehicles.
Shortly after your introducted an allied convoy teleports into onto a road and host a very powerful tank from the nation you're playing. And I was too lazy to play the rest of the mission.
(You get the point)
Horray! Another copy and paste (Litterly.) from the previous game!
(Do you even care anymore?)
A stealth mission! Sort of. When you start the mission the game pops up a menu asking whether if you want your squad to be only snipers or assault infantry. I didn't bother to play the mission at all because I already had done enough stealth missions *cough* Men of War & Faces of War mod *cough*. After you do those little objectives the game says there is a totally-important-officer-unit coming. So what do you do? You kill him! After you kill them a ton of units come to do stuff and you leave the map.
Same copy and past from the previous Assault Squad, if I see one mor--
Are you kidding me developers? Another copy and paste! What does this add?! Nothing!
An Assault Squad DLC mission port. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRREEEEEEAT.
Well... some thing I like is that they added winter and desert texmods to some human skins, and had most hats aswell.
This is a great thing as they removed the winter and desert texmods before and the ones in Men of War weren't that great. (Although they did use some skins from Men of War.) There are also some new custom skins that I agree and also disagree with.
The German winter skins look much better now as them being purely white as in Men of War was kind of unrealistic. Although the winter skins for assault infantry isn't great realisticly.
Russian Winter skins. No. The normal ones were fine.
The devs added pathway showing... things, which is helpful so you know when your vehicles and infantry take a stupid route and get themselves killed in the process.
This franchise in my opinion became after Men of War: Assault Squad, a competitive multiplayer game and was a reality and a memory. This sort of can be told through the options menu with the bloom option. In Men of War the bloom option made things blurrier and more like a memory than in Assault Squad where the bloom... Does something?
Nah. Read the entire damn thing yourself.
