New update gives the game a much needed facelift.
I see new textures and better choices all around for colors and saturation as well. This update is probably how the game should have launched but we know Myst games take a while. Many objects in game were given a nice boost in resolution and overall it looks much better than before if still a little inconsistent.

Anyway, what do you think could still be done for the game if you have already tried the beta? If you are not in the beta then when the actual update goes live just try the game out and get back here for what you think needs work still. This could be performance, textures, etc.

note : spoilers following

I know some of them are close to be impossible but it this what lacks to be a must-have (at the moment it's only a good game).

- New Stuff. I'm not asking for new puzzles or ages (even if it would be amazing) but some new small things to look at like the Ti'ana grave... it makes the game deeper and more real.
I can understand they are trying to stay true to the original but maybe it's the occasion to make it better. So why not redesign some objects ? The ship for exemple is not credible as a ship to travel in the sea, why not adding stuff that will make it real ?
Most structures aren't here for a reason.. why not adding this reason ? (ex : the giant cogs could be a part of a real mechanism...etc)
Other exemple, for the mazezrunner why not adding an option to make the trip automatically once you've successfully done it ? Again that would make it more real (like if you are calibrating the path)
Models with more polys (like lamps, chairs...etc) could also be a thing.

- Better Optimization. It's ok with this update but still could be better. I'm at 15-20 fps at medium parameters and the game is awful if you downgrade them.

- Beautiful Trees. The leaves on the trees are not so beautiful when looked close, could be a bit better.

- The textures are really better with this new update, so yes continuing in this way would be cool. Also some of them are low res and look pixelated... not so great.

- Subtitles. At least in english there are not so much dialogues. It's always a better experience and is useful for people who stream games or non-english people.

- Localizations. It would require a lot of work (even if most of the translations already exists from the the previous games) but would open to a larger audience. I know I have not recommended it to some people because it was a deterrent.

- More customization. Like remapping, separate volume controls, option to always stay in fps mode (even if the new control scheme is now enough and great)

- Animation. Atrus animation ruin the end, really. I understand they can't use the original 2D footage for it, but this one could at least look like someone and the lights with it seems not accorded.

I know, I'm always asking for more :)

I really don't think there's much more that could be added besides easter eggs. The gears really don't need to have a function. They never did, besides the one opening for the book. The whole of Myst Island is a strange hodgepodge work of art, and I'm pretty sure the Miller's themselves said that it totally wouldn't have worked had it not been the 90's. As for the ones laying about Mechanical...stylistic flair probably, or it could be something plot-related. It's been awhile since I read the journals, but I recall them having to build the rotating fortress and...I don't really recall what it was prior to that, several small islands? I'd agree on the Mazerunner though.

I wouldn't mind being able to view Stoneship with the yellow/green lighting like in the Anniversary edition of Myst, but that's merely nostalgia talking. Besides that, well, the game plays fine for me on mid settings. I get good fps, the graphics are nice, and there's only rarely lag, but my laptop does still kick out alot of heat. I haven't tried lower settings yet because before the patch it was still pretty demanding even at lowest settings.

Yeah, this one was more dreaming...
But I still believe some small objects or redesign could be done to make the place feel more credible.
And maybe I am thinking more about new people discovering the game than long fans of the series.

For sure if this was remade in Unreal 4 I would expect brand new everything while keeping the same vibe.

For this we don't need too many NEW things per se. What we do need is better performance, better textures, and just more polishing.

that's just because I saw this kind of stuff : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v_htZMQhdNg

Yeah there is a lot that can be done. Myst itself should be mostly kept to what it was though imo. A new game is always welcome too. I hope Riven is not on Unity for sure though. Unreal 4 is the way to go for smaller devs I think.

The burned books are also pixelated and the bottom map in Achenar's chest of drawers in his
room in Stoneship is too. Also, the secret fireplace Easter egg about "Atrus' donuts" is missing as well. The crystal puzzle on Rime, the "change the landscape of the Age" puzzle is missing, too. Yet the code for it is still in Atrus' first journal in Rime!
