All interiors show extremely dark.

Unless I am missing something in the game, all building interiors are in complete darkness. When I approach the forechamber, from the outside I can see a little of the paneled room inside, through the open door. But when I enter, it all goes dark. What am I missing? I am playing the game on an HP laptop, under Windows 7. Thanks in advance.

Is the entire game like this or just a particular age?

I don't know. It's like this at least at the very beginning. ALL interiors of buidlings at the beginning show totally dark when you enter. I'm wondering if I have to set an environment variable, or something.

Definitely not supposed to be like that then. Make sure windows and your graphics driver is up-to-date, you may also want to try re-installing the game. If that does not work I recommend contacting Cyan support here; http://support.cyan.com/

"Me, too." Problem is only on Myst Island. Interiors look fine from outside at a distance, but when walk in a door, lighting dims quickly, but not instantly (about a second). Library and imager room are very dim. Planetarium, shack, clock, tower, power room are black except for gauges and other lighted elements. Rocket is okay. Flashlight only works outside on the island. Other ages I've been able to get to work fine. Submitted a ticket a few days ago and updated it. No responses yet. Using Windows 8 x64 on a laptop with AMD components.

Just tried realMyst on my desktop Windows 8.1 x64 with NVidia card and have the exact same problem. I was making sure this was not related to any problems with the ATI Radeon card on my lap top. Still no response from support.

If interiors are dark for you, try calibrating your display's gamma. Win7x64 laptop works fine over here. Also an HP laptop. Maybe it is your display settings as well. Check my screenshots from the game, if they appear dark for you, it is your gamma probably.

Dark for me too. Almost unplayable. Display Gamma at the brightest, but barely make out anything on Myst. Flashlight doesn't work most of the time. Grrr....

For what it's worth: If you hit "F" you can turn on a flashlight. You can also access it from the main menu -- it's the flashlight icon. The game's still a bit dark for me, too, but that helps! :)

We are currently working on an update to realMyst: Masterpiece Edition that addresses the dark room issue on Myst Island and other ages that use the day/night cycle. XYTN - flashlight doesn't work for this issue. It's like ambient light is totally turned off in many strucutres on Myst island. Totally black. And flashlight only illuminates trees and plants, it does not illuminate anything else. It's very wierd, definitely not working right. If you read other issues on this forum or on the web you'll see others with this same issue.

I'll try contacting Cyan on this.
