If you're experiencing horrible fps issues and lags...
Try installing the Ligos Indeo Codec, you can find it by using Google.
Also: Set Windows XP (Service Pack 3) as compatibility setting.

Will that stop the game from nearly melting my GPU?

Seriously, even on all low settings and my fan curve enabled, my GPU kicks up to 80 degrees C.

Make sure your GPU isn't coating with dust; perhaps the GPU fan is clogged

I tried cleaning the damn thing three times now, and it didn't make a blind bit of difference all three times. I don't know what to do anymore, or if I'm doing something wrong.

My GPU is heating up a lot too, more than it would on other games actually. I don't mind though. 80 degrees is still in an acceptable range.

So a GPU heating up like that is probably a side effect of poor optimization?

That didnt work took a shot and downloaded that codec it did nothing ...but thanks

I guess.
I've had a few games so far that showed similar issues although they weren't much of a load on the GPU (or shouldn't be). Can't name them though.

Try starting the game in compatibility mode for Win XP (SP3) as well. I completely forgot I did that, added it to the OP.

For some games with that problem, I find reducing the resolution from 1920x1080 to 1280x720 solves the issue, but realMyst was ALREADY RUNNING at 720p. And I had vsync enabled, another thing that usually solves GPU heat issues. So I think the game really, REALLY needs better optimization. Soon.

Would that codec even work at all on Windows 8.1 without downloading FFDirectshow to set-up the codec heirarchy? I am going to wait and see if the devs patch this and then wait for a sale. This sounds too much like the issues I had with my GoG version of Real MYST.

I haven't tried running it on 8.1 yet (although my laptop runs it). I usually play on my tower which runs Windows 7 64bit. Also: I literally have no clue about codecs and such but THIS IS what solved my problem ;D

Please be sure to look into this Cyan, I came close to buying this outright as a huge Myst fan but I don't want my GPU temps running that hot if I can help it. Some of the heavier games can't even push my 660 TF that high!

Thanks Akio. I think I'll wait and see if CYAN releases a patch and then wait for a sale. Over the years I have bought several copies of MYST in some form or the other (the original, MYST Trilogy, Real MYST, MYST Masterpiece), looking for the 'perfect' version - and I do hope that this one will eventually become that - THE perfect version.

:)

I had two sli cards running at 90c for years, no issues, working hard makes them happy.

Maybe this game is coated with dust...

One thing's for sure, game needs optimization in the worst way.
