realMyst: Masterpiece Edition
Myst honest question. Guide or no guide?
Hello I just bought realMyst back during the steam sale cause I played it before as a kid and was stupid enough not to get a real version instead getting the horrible 3ds port. Now that i own realMyst one of the few things i remember is that few people could beat it without help. My question is if I have time but not all the time in the world is it worth my time to either play using a full walkthrough, getting help on only puzzles I find impossible and can't solve for an extended period of time, or trying purely solo? Is it any less rewarding doing either of the methods? Second, I also asked my friend to give me as much as a low down on puzzles that are especially hard and things I should know without blatantly giving spoilers or solutions to puzzles, and was wondering if there is anything I can do that will help me save time if I choose to play Myst solo. Lastly I have not seen any endings but I heard of the ending that is the real one can be gotten straight from the beginning and can be frustrating going through everything to only find this out at the end. Is this true? Please no spoilers and sorry for the long post and grammar.

It defeats the point of a games that's gameplay is based on solving puzzles to look up the solutions, the puzzles can be frustrating but once you figure them out very rewarding. If you have too much difficulty on a puzzle you can consider hints but you will have very little satisfaction if you fail to figure it out yourself and may be banging your head for not realizing the solution on your own. I did not find the ending frustrating but very rewarding.
You don't need a guide for Myst. Heck, it can be solved in under 10 minutes if you know what you're doing :P

The "early ending" requires two pieces of prior knowledge; one piece is hidden across two Ages, and the other piece is hidden across all of them, in the form of the Red and Blue Books. If you don't know both of these, you can't quick solve the game. If you know both of these, either from current, prior, or other people's playthroughs, you can easily get a good ending.

Probably the biggest piece of advice I can give for Myst is not to take everything at face value. Try to discover all pieces of a puzzle.
Just as a seperate thing, the puzzle solutions in Myst are not randomized; each puzzle has the same solution every playthrough. Riven has 2 things which are randomized, in addition to the need to actually go through the plot every game. However, that game ends at the ending.

If I recall correctly, from my childhood, there was only ONE "good" ending and that involved the fireplace and the GREEN book. Wondering why most of you haven't heard of that book? That's because this game is near impossible without "some" form of assistance. Some of those "Boss Puzzles" for each of the ages were downright cruel. God help you if you went in that train cart tunnel without knowing EXACTLY where you were going.
thanks for the advice managed to beat 2 ages in a day
End-game spoiler, @ Putty
I had used the wording I did use to imply that the boys _could_ have been good by being ambuigious on the number of good endings.
