First time for Kunos having a go at implementing Ai. There previous title (NetKarPro) was Multiplayer only. Wish Kunos would have a talk with the guys over at Reiza Studios though .. GSC has some pretty awesome Ai. Would be awesome to get simulair quality in AC.
The AI aren't perfect don't get me wrong but the AI has actually improved from what was once an incredibly shocking state. Again, not perfect but it's currently good enough for me to have a blast with a full field of GT3 cars around the Ring's GP circuit.
But to answer what I believe was a question hidden behind that post is yes. The AI is still WiP and will be improved over time as with the rest of the game. The version says 1.0.0 but it is a release candidate, not full version as of yet.
I can't remember and I can't get on to check because I'm downloading the recent update but isn't there a sound modifier for tyre's? When pushing a real car to the limits of grip, depending on the car, the sound is actually quite loud. At least in my experience. Can depend on the sound proofing obviously.
Lastly, no idea about scripted races but I haven't noticed anything like that.
I have hours and hours in this but Im getting bored to be honest.
Perhaps a LITTLE... :D
From your tone it seems that you don't like AC at all.
And yes, for the white nights out there, I have seen the improvements made over the last many months. But that still doesnt change the fact that the AI are still terrible(especially when compared to competitor products, rF2 and GSCEx).
I spend 2 hours last night racing AI in AC, I maybe managed 2 races out of 10 in which i didnt get wrecked by AI, or at least given a smashed windscreen from the slightest tap at the start(on my rear bumper btw). Or being treated to a dispay of the most hilarious dance routines these AI perform when they find themselves behind another damaged AI. It quickly degenerates into a bloody Conga line !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Which yes, means I can leisurely drive past all of them, but where is the fun in that ????????
I thought to myself, I must be doing something wrong, Ill try another sim.
So I loaded up rFactor 2 at Mid Ohio with the Megane Trophy, a 20 car race, and ran for over an hour on a rainy track without a single incident. All the AI were giving me a really good challenge without being suicidal. A little aggressive maybe, but thats because I set them that way.
Kunos have never done AI in there sims, maybe its not their strongest area of expertise.
But people telling them "Its fine for me", when they know full well its pathetic when compared to other sims are not helping the continued improvement of AC!!!!!!!
Critisism is how these sims improve. Without it they are just glorified arcade games!!!!!!!!!
Id say on an AI scale from 0 - 10, the results are:
- R Factor 2 = 8
- GSCEx = 9
- Asetto Corsa = 4 (on a good day, 2 on a bad)
I really do think they should contract someone with more experience to work on the AI, I play almost exclusively offline single player vs AI in all the Sims.
So for me all AC is at this point in time is a nice looking hotlap sim. I only try the AI every update for a few hours to see whether improvements have been made. And again, I acknowledge, yes they have improved a lot. But they still have a huge way to go in this area.
Also, dont get me started on Multiplayer, that is a whole different story, but thats not Kunos's fault, its just full of idiots who ram all day, and think the race is won on the first corner. Bound to happen with it being on Steam ;)
Thought I was pretty clear but I can repeat the essentials:
* Cars are great <- see, I'm positive
* Tracks are great <- see, I'm positive again
* Racing vs AI sucks
And since this is supposed to be a racing sim it's kind of bad that parts of the racing is pretty lousy. Does it makes AC as whole bad? No. Can it be fixed? Probably. Do I still like AC? Yes, as long as I don't have to race vs AI.
Some races the AI are fine and I'd even go as far to say they are fun to race against, but in other races they are easily the worst AI of all time.
From what I gather the online side of things is still fairly useless too so that does get pretty annoying when you want to do more than just drive around by yourself.

Okay... right, whatever you say.
I wonder how good the AI is on all those F1 team's personal sims...
In addition to that we have very unrealistic fake penalties that can turn a small mistake into a big accident, and double punish a driver for going off. if they existed in the real world would cause dangerous accidents to happen by taking away your full control of the car (because it stops you from using the throttle). We also have AI that cannot yet use pit stops, so we can't have proper length races outside of multiplayer.
On the other hand the cars and tracks are beautifully modelled and the physics engine and driving is arguably the best in the business. What we actually have with Assetto Corsa right now is a driving simulator, not a racing simulator.
When in close racing I find the AI just swerve out of the way now, just like they did when you selected 'no collisions' on the pre-RC version- not exactly sim-like, but suitable for a video-game.
I actually prefer this current AI to any previous ones. However, It's still frustrating the non-existent understeer of the AI cars(certain cars) in slow corners. No matter what I try I can't keep the same line and speed of the AI cars- costing me 0.5+ seconds a lap on the 2 circuits I've been driving(Magione & Mugello).
It's still good and I'll keep playing, now it has a bit of game structure in the shape of a career mode.
It's very easy to over estimate the quality of simulation on offer because of the over enthusiastic recommendations of some of the forum members.
