And if you actually bought a 780 instead of a 980, then you probably got ripped off but I guess you just made a typo in your post :P
This is on a (pretty slow by todays standards) AMD FX-8350.
so which gpu do you have? the 980 or 780? your first post say's 980 in the title but your first sentence say's 780.
which nvidia driver are you using? 344.16 is for the 900 series only, 344.11 is for all series.
did you remove your old driver in safe mode before installing the new 980?
I use a program called DDU which is avalible in the nvidia driver forum.
you should have vsync on for AC, but for a test I ran my new GTX 970 with vsync off at max settings plus a couple high end tweeks in nvidia control panel for AC and I get a smooth 137 fps, and I am running a old intel i7 970 6 core.
So what we do ??? Just lower the reflections shadows to medium and smoke to normal , this will get you a nice perfomance .
The truth is that this game has the best graphics on the cars inside outside and the best lighting not (shadows) . In my opinion even better than P.C.
Yes the ultra reflections and Smoke settings need better optimize BUT lower settings are amazing .
I have tested this game on Core 2 Duo with AMD 5770 . On with 2xAA low shadows, low reflections normal smoke and Normal post effects . I have 57 fps with 8 cars .
On P.C on the same low end PC i cant even get 30 fps on everything low. And it looks way worst than Assetto corsa.
So in the End maybe Project Cars is better optimized on Maximum settings. But Assetto corsa is better optimized on Lower settings without loosing so much on the graphics.
I bealive that in the future they will fix this shadows , smoke hungry settings ,,,,,,Maybe its psycological and they have to Make Ultra Reflections and Smokes look like Normal . So everyone will be happy thinking that they have maximum settings and in reality get normal .
This has been a problem before on Raceroom to, with 1k reflections , after the latest patch . the Ultra reflections are not the 1k , but the old high reflections. Everyone thought that was a better optimize , NOPE just the name of the settings :)
You assumed wrong. There are no single GPU which will max this game. The cubemapping reflections pull out teeth on any system, lower it. You wont be able to tell the difference except in screenshots. Lower smoke. AA is a strange beast in this game. I have it on X4 but can still see clear aliasing and pixelated lines in the distance. Fast AA doesnt appear to do anything, not in terms of either looks or takes much of a performance hit.
Also they still need to work on optimization. With 12 cars on track, my own included, on some tracks it is as if Vsync kicks in and then drops out again so my FPS drops from like 140 to 30 for a few seconds, with no good reason as to why. I think there is an optimization issue here that the dev has not encountered on their (I assume) beastly work stations but which needs to be addressed. It means that I cant use Vsync because Vsync at places assume I cant run the game at 60 (which is BS when I get above 100 most of the time) so it switches between 30 and 60 on and off which is intollerable. Or maybe Its a SLI issue. I run dual GPU's.- But its there and its pissing me off. It was introduced with the last update. Never saw it before that. The game always ran pretty sweet on my rig.
