This game is hard, but not in the way you think:

- Exploration in this game is quite hard if you are used to "Follow" point on the HUD. There is no simple indicator where to go next, so you need to be prepared for lots of exploration. Exploration hovewer is highly rewarded, with bonus items, levels and interesting sidequests and powers
- Combat is hard, but only if you are not prepared for it.There is cooking/crafting mechanic, that will make your game much easier. With good set of items in case, you will be able to heal and defence yourself with ease.
- No Quick saves. You are allowed to save only at Red Crystals. There are plenty of them, but you need to remember to save or else continuing can be painful.
- There are lots of sources of healing. Plant, food, sea creatures, saving... This may help.
- Most bosses are puzzle bosses. No need for extreme skill in kind of Super Meat Boy.

Conclusion: If your mind is up to date and running, this won't be a very hard game. This is an awesome adventure, but...

"No Quick saves" <-- I hate this part >_> and yeah, the game is substantially hard

Why would you need quicksave? If you're taking good care of yourself you don't need it. Boss fights are not that long, and always have a save crystal before you start.

Because some people have responsibilities and if they don't reach a save point, say for example if they are playing right before having to leave for work, then they'll have to restart their progress.

And if anyone is thinking of pulling the, "well you shouldn't be playing before going to work then," line... well obviously if someone wanted to play games before work, then this obviously that would creat the lack of appeal. -_-

Meh. Instant saving is overrated. You don't see it in many console games. FWIW, not being able to save everywhere keeps you on your toes, and deters you from doing something stupid.

Difficult, but that makes it fun!

The game could use a fast travel system to help with backtracking but otherwise the game is quite easy (backtracking is easy as well, just gets annoying sometimes and hinders the joy of exploration a little).

I take care and for now I'm able to manage my resources well, but sometimes it is tiring to restart the last checkpoint because of some considerable mistake. quicksaves would be useful.

You can find the one in Home Waters on the right side of the level. Check your map for where you haven't explored. If you have found it you'll get a turtle icon on the location you found it at.

Two on the opposite ides of the Veil. One in the opposite corridor to the Mithalas entrance. One on the east of Home Waters, one at south Kelp Forest, one in the Abbys and one at the end of The Body

Well. i'd call it.
Ecco the dolphin meets super metroid with Bangai-o's combat system kind of.

So yes I would say the difficulty elevates as the game progresses.

It can be difficult, but I beat the game and I'm not particularly skilled. Cooking recipes definitely help, especially when you get some of the more sophisticated recipes. Just don't waste your red bulbs/special bulbs.
The lack of quick-saving is fine by me - I've ruined files in other games by saving at a bad time before, and the save crystals are pretty well placed.
