The bit-blot website is down...
I purchased this game (Aquaria) back in the days and now that I have a steam account I wanted to add it using the Registration Key. Trouble... the activation key doesn't work. I tried to find help but this is where I ended up with my search for help on steam.

It usually goes down at the end of the month because spambots eat up all their bandwidth. I've contacted them multiple times, they know it, but nothing is happening.

Anyway, I assume the key you got back then is for the very first version from 2007. Plimus, probably? This key was used as a serial, entered at first launch, to verify you have a legit copy.
Later versions were DRM free and the key was not required, but Plimus didn't realize that and kept sending out keys to buyers.

Long story short, if you got this key from plimus it can't be used for steam. You can either buy it again on steam or continue using what you already have. Both versions should be identical except for the fancy achievements that were added with steam.
Btw, the version sold on the humble store is the same as in the humble bundle or what was sold via plimus (1.1.1 on windows).

However, if you have a steam key that was marked as such (i.e. one that came with a humble bundle), then you should should be able to redeem it on steam...

Yeah it's the 2007 version from Plimus. Thanks for the quick answer.

I don't remember if the newer Plimus versions have all the game files unpacked, but if so, you should consider fg's open source build. Bug fixes, mod downloader, and all the nice stuff. The Windows Steam version's quite out of date, last time I checked.

Yeah... but without the achievements I won't be able to impress the ladies.
