This game seems fun but playing with a controller has been horrible
I've been playing for 36 minutes and so far all I can do is dash and sing. There was a tutorial saying sing the same color and I thought I did but nothing happened. Now it wants me to create a recipe with food but I haven't picked up anything. How do I do that? Is there some button to get food? I can't even attack enemies. I'm not sure what I am doing wrong but I guess I'll try again later. It seems fun, shame that I have't been able to do anything else.

Edit: I mean, I figured that maybe I am being impatient and it would teach me things like a tutorial as I played but I've done nothing but dash and swim and sing for the past 30 minutes. Can I hit things?

You can sing to grab leaves and other things from your surroundings.

I can't help you on the controller part though since I played it with mouse and keyboard.

The controller mapping doesn't work. I use a PS4 controller and DS4Windows to give keyboard values to buttons. If you can create a profile on your controller to use keybindings, that's probably the best you can get atm.

Here is the list of default keybindings: https://strategywiki.org/wiki/Aquaria/Controls

To get plants you have to sing the correct colour of the bud of the flower, but you don't really get any real powers until you get BIND and your Dark form. BIND you have to get from the ancient vault and your dark form comes pretty much right after that.

GL and HF.

You'll have to acquite new songs to unlock the offensive form and a whole lot of new things. Find a place called Song Cave. And btw creating a recipe isn't mandatory.

I haven't been able to figure out how to sing and swim at the same time, using a controller. I have two joysticks, but the moment I try to sing, Naija stops moving and I'm bound to the song circle. The first time I played Aquaria (years ago with a trackpad) I'm pretty certain I was able to sing and swim at the same time, even if the direction I swam was only the direction of the note I was swimming. Any ideas?

It seems many people have controller problems. The only good solution seems to be switching to a mouse and keyboard. Sorry I couldn't be or more help. But until they update that's the best option.

For the most part it works with my PS4 controller mapped through Steam (not DS4Windows). The button mapping for the map was wrong by default, but that's trivial to change.

BUT... and this is a huge caveat... the controller is emulating a mouse cursor on the right stick. In Energy Form this isn't a big deal because of the way shots lock on, but trying to do the long jumping sequence up to a Rukh's nest, or even using Li's beam in Dual Form mode, kind of sucks with it.

It's a real shame, since aside from menus the game is mostly just converting the mouse cursor to a direction anyway. But I came to the game 10 years late, and the studio is gone, so I doubt that will ever get changed.

you can press 1 to 0 on the keyboard to change her form :)
