Wow, this game kinda falls apart at the sun temple...
Such a shame. I hadn't actually given this a playthrough, or even tried to do so in years... but the platforming is so god awful I can't be bothered. I was really enjoying this too.

Is this about the out-of-water jumps?

Yeah, where you have to jump between rotating gears and crap.
Yeah, that platforming is tough. Naija just isn't really skilled at extra-aquatic locomotion...

I was also enjoying this game up until this point. It got so frustrating that I pulled up a walkthrough and the steps outlined at the spot I was stuck were just so convoluted that I just stopped right there.

Once you get the hang of it, it's not that hard. Use Beast Form, btw. You can also use Nature Form to create out-of-water platforms, tho.

I don't remember it perfectly, but isn't the "jump between rotating gears" segment completely optional?

AFAIK it only leads you to find a hidden memory, but you don't need that to beat the Sun Temple boss and continue the game.
Therefore it's probably intentionally difficult - a little optional challenge for veteran players and completionists.

PS: There's a second way to get to that hidden memory, but it's even more difficult (quite a bit more in fact): By making a "briar jump" from the Rukh nest on the top-right corner of the Veil map, all the way over the water, to the roof of the Sun Temple.
A "briar jump" is when you're sitting on dry land in Nature Form, and planting a briar directly underneath yourself so that it propels you forward. The problem is that it pretty much relies on dumb luck, because it fails on most attempts (possibly related to where exactly you click to plant the briar), and after each failed attempt it takes a lot of effort to get back up to the Rukh nest.
So yeah, the gear-jumping is the easier path, because once you get a feel for it you can do it pretty reliably.

Try doing it with the mouse only, clicking far away to make her dash. This area is a bit too fiddly for WASD + Spacebar controls.

Oh yeah, I don't recommend doing WASD here because you need omnidirectional movement for best results.
This game is much like "Ecco the dolphin" on Sega to me. And jumps were even harder there. So it's fine.

I realize this is an old chat, but there are certain foods you can eat that will help with this part.

the gear part isn't _that_ tough, it just takes a bit of practice. You'll get it if you experiment with different forms. :B1:

You can use nature form's spike to launch yourself super high. Not really that difficult.

The jumping stuff became vastly easier when I gave up trying to do it with the controller and used the mouse instead.
