Ah, OK, so the game is kind of like the Russian Star Wolves series then. In that game your pilots don't get killed, but eject from their ships in escape pods and sit around in space until you retrieve them. Anyway, not being able to loose your pilots maybe takes a little of the excitement and adrenaline rush away, but as with Star Wolves, it's something for the sake of game play that I can live with.
I never thought a turn-based air game could be fun, but I'm glad to see how wrong I was. I would love to see Sid use this system for WW2 or modern jet fighters. I also would mention that having women pilots in WW1 is maybe not historically accurate, but it is a nice touch that kind of adds to the game's charm. :D
BTW, slightly off-topic, but has anyone seen the German film about von Richtofen called 'The Red Baron'? It should have been great, and even co-starred Lena 'Cersei Lannister' Headey, but I thought it was a moderate disappointment. It didn't even have the climatic dogfight between the Baron and Roy Brown. For WW1 aviation movies, I thought the old, old Blue Max was much better.
I'm also afraid the PC save slots might break the game as badly as the iOS IAPs did. If I get it right there isn't any real tension if I can just reload my last save until I pull the mission off, right?
I have completed 3 and a bit campaigns so far and I'm loving it. :)
This game brings back good memories. :)
