Love this game
I don't usually post on Steam, but I liked this game so much that I had to chime in with a big thumbs up. Graphically it isn't going to win any awards, but the presentation is still very pleasing to the eye, and I love watching the real-time playbacks after each mission.

The game is a lot more releasitic than I had expected. For example, rookie pilots won't be able to do much more than turn or gain/lose altitude, but as your pilots level up they will be able to do sophisticated things like barrel rolls and Immelmans. The missions seem quite varied and get more complex as you progress through your campaign, and you even have the chance to influence the ground war.

Of course the RPG elements are cool and make you take an active interest in the careers of your pilots, though it makes me wonder how I'm going to feel if I loose one of my 'pet' pilots. Restart from a save? ;o) Also, it seems like one of those games that's easy to learn and hard to master, always a good thing. Finally, the game has kind of a light-hearted approach that I find refreshing, and dare I say, charming.

I'm early in my campaign and still using the starter fighters, but am really looking forward to seeing how the game progresses with more and better planes and complex missions. Anyway, Ace Patrol may not satisfy hardcore gamers, but for the mostly casual players like me it's perfect and I'm really enjoying it. For ten bucks this little gem is a bargain.

Glad someone other then me is enjoying the game. lol I agree it's a lot of fun for a little game.

I really like the game. It plays fast, it has an easy to grasp ruleset and is fun to play inbetween. I just hope they'll iron out the technical difficulties.

Thirding that, great little game. Seems to be of the easy to learn, difficult to master - sort.

Oh, if not already clear, assuming it will work as it did on iOS, none of your pilots can ever be killed but they may be out of action for many missions in a POW camp or in a hospital.

Ah, OK, so the game is kind of like the Russian Star Wolves series then. In that game your pilots don't get killed, but eject from their ships in escape pods and sit around in space until you retrieve them. Anyway, not being able to loose your pilots maybe takes a little of the excitement and adrenaline rush away, but as with Star Wolves, it's something for the sake of game play that I can live with.

I never thought a turn-based air game could be fun, but I'm glad to see how wrong I was. I would love to see Sid use this system for WW2 or modern jet fighters. I also would mention that having women pilots in WW1 is maybe not historically accurate, but it is a nice touch that kind of adds to the game's charm. :D

BTW, slightly off-topic, but has anyone seen the German film about von Richtofen called 'The Red Baron'? It should have been great, and even co-starred Lena 'Cersei Lannister' Headey, but I thought it was a moderate disappointment. It didn't even have the climatic dogfight between the Baron and Roy Brown. For WW1 aviation movies, I thought the old, old Blue Max was much better.

I saw 'The Red Baron' and enjoyed it... but I agree with you 'Blue Max' was better.

I think this game is GREAT! Back when I was a kid, I used to play Avalon Hill's Richtofen's War and a certain book game called Ace of Aces.

Haha, Ace of Aces! Blast from the past.

From the look of things, this reminds me a lot of the card/board game Wings of War. Anyone with experience able to clue me in as to whether that's the case?

Someone in another thread mentioned that he really liked Ace Patrol at first, but felt it didn't hold up well. Speaking to that, if I get 2-3 weeks enjoyment and after that feel moved to return to it from time-to-time, then I would consider it well-worth the modest price tag. I would also add that it's the first game in a while to successfully distract me from the very addicting Guild Wars 2. ;o)

@Darnassus. GW2 huh, I've tried and tried to like that game, but playing solo is well...kinda boring. Playing with someone I think would make it a lot more fun, but although I've bought the game for both my Son and Daughter (both in their 20's), can't talk them into playing with their Pops. lol My Daughter even got to 80th in like a week! What is it about GW2 that makes it addicting to you? I really want to enjoy that game, but can't seem to get into it. :( As for Ace Patrol for an $8 game (I bought mine at GMG), it is exceptionally good. Great value of entertainment for very low cost!

I really liked this on the iOS, other than it's subtle push toward the consumable IAPs (Field Hospital, just give them $0.99 and all pilots will be good to go on the next mission), but will concede it has a bit of a lite replayable almost board gamey quality to it. Not that deep but fun and very replayable. I want to grab this, especially for $5 via Gamestop, but am afraid, as my system has weird issues with Civ 5, there could be technical problems.

I'm also afraid the PC save slots might break the game as badly as the iOS IAPs did. If I get it right there isn't any real tension if I can just reload my last save until I pull the mission off, right?

It plays very similar to table top wargames of WWI air combat.

I have completed 3 and a bit campaigns so far and I'm loving it. :)

Shadow, sorry for not replying sooner. A lengthy discussion of GW2 here would be very off-topic. Suffice to say that although the game is not perfect (what game is?), of the mmo's I've fully fleshed out (The Secret World, Star Trek Online, Neverwinter, and Star Wars The Old Republic), I think GW2 is the best by far. The combat, character classes, and races are fun, the crafting is the best I've seen, the avatars and armors look really good, and the game rewards almost everything you do. I think GW2 is probably about as good as anyone can do the theme park/hero assembly line style mmo, and hopefully going forward developers will embrace the sandbox mmo model.

Anybody remeber the board game, "Richthofen's War", by Avalon Hill?
This game brings back good memories. :)
