The Harvest is an Action RPG where you play as a Mech fighting off an Alien menace intent on harvesting the Human race, I think. The story wasn't really very clear.
You can select from five different Mech types each with 2 special attacks unique to them and like all ARPGS you fight enemies, collect loot, level up and explore a very limited map. It's just there are many better versions of this game with better enemies, better loot, a better levelling system and better exploration.
The game was originally a Win8 tablet/desktop app and it shows. The graphics are poor, videos look like they are scaled up from 320x200 and the controls limited. The view is also far too claustrophobic. Many times enemies off screen shoot at you and you find yourself watching the minimap for far more of the game than the actual screen. Some sort of zoom out function is desperately needed here.
The game occurs across four different environments, the desert, a city and two slightly different underground levels. But there are no really different or interesting ideas here, its almost completely derivative. The desert level has Sarlaccs, the staff wielding baddies from Stargate show up and at least two of the bosses look like the broodmother from Dragon Age.
The game is also quite buggy and seems to have been abandoned. There is a side mission that doesn't seem to work at all in the first area, some of the achievements don't work properly, one is given for collecting 1 recording instead of 10 and another doesn't work at all. There are also reports that the game will only work in Win8, it worked fine for me in Win7 32-bit, but it's probably wise to be careful.
Every part of this game is inferior to the leaders in the genre. It's just meh, buy torchlight 1 or 2 or maybe Van Helsing instead.
