Anachronox is an enjoyable game where the main positives are that the characters and story are well written. Developed by Iron Storm and underperforming on the market, this game is a hidden gem of the past. It takes the inspirations from JRPGs such as Final Fantasy and gives it witty story telling with some hilarious references and mockery.
1. Poor level design - Levels are designed in a very long linear fashion and often you are required to backtrack several times to complete objectives.
2. Animations are SO slow, especially during combat as it is turn based. Just having the 3 of your party do their attacks can take over 30 seconds.
3. Unskippable cutscenes
4. The game does a terrible job at describing Mystech effects, skills and several important items such as the Elementor (Main damage dealer requiring specific combinations to deal different types of effects/damage).
*1-3 can be semi-remedied by pressing (\) to fast forward animations.
All in all the game was enjoyable to a degree. It has that old-school feel of classic story telling of likeable characters and a well written plot. I would not replay this game at all due to the problems above though, as it made the game feel like a chore in a majority of playtime. It's great for a single playthrough if you're looking to kill time.
