Havent play DoI, but for almost every begginer it looks like you said - lots of dying. As in every shooter you need to, you know, "git good", and that requires some time. Learning maps and rifle handling is not everything in verdun though. Squad types and roles, their advantages and abilities - to be an effective player, you need to understand them, and that again requires time and experience. So to answer your question - yes, it is rather hard from the beggining.
20 hours, and you will be able shoot relatively good (considering you are not new in FPS). To advance further, more and more hours are needed.

I play both... the bots in DOi are formidable - the bots in Verdun squad defence (kinda like DOI co-op), are a breeze in comparison. Against seasoned vets, see post above...

Verdun is less punishing but still difficult, guns are easier to use in verdun

OB describes well... DOI is so fast it gets me reeling - but I an an old bastard myself:) . I prefer the slower pace of Verdun - I can play Verdun all day, but I can only manage around an hour of DOI before PTSD sets in. I suppose thay means I find Verdun easier - but easy isn't something I look for in a game... otherwise it wouldn't keep me trying at it.

doi is a lot more fast pace, and verdun is more on slower and careful pace.i mean you need to look everywhere repeatly.has a gamer with almost a white stick. look everywhere :D

Verdun has a faster respawn time and there's no limited respawns in the main gamemode, so dying is less of a concern.

Verdun is faster paced. If you play it slow you play it wrong.

I feel like DOI has more explosive spam due to the more confined and urban maps in DOI
