Please for the love of God, I just want to play the game

So apparantly my firewall is blocking the game!
Which is really neat, because that means my firewall has the power of God, because that means it opperates while it's turned off, or with Verdun given every permission under the sun!
Please, can someone give me some help here, I just really want to play this game.

What about your anti-virus program? Is the game constantly trying to connect (i.e. Attempt #) or is it giving an error? (E.g. ExceptionOnConnect)

I'm running the worst possible security system, mostly because it's microsoft security essentials. It is however giving me the attempt #, with the notification that my firewall/antivirus is blocking it. Which both of which have been turned off in an attempt to make this work.

What type of Internet connection are you using, wired or wireless?

Which server is it trying to connect to? (US, EU, AU, etc.) Are you able to switch servers?

Wireless, and US I believe. I'll look into switching servers!

I can switch servers, but it's about as helpful as one would expect.

Hmm. I don't really see how it would help, but verifying your game cache in Steam is always worth a try. I see this on the Official Support Guide, but doesn't sound like it's exactly your error:

This issue is being caused by either your firewall or your anti-virus scanner. Make sure your virus scanner and firewall both allow Verdun to pass through. If that fails, try disabling them both. Otherwise you’ll need to investigate further what might be blocking the Verdun connection (possibly a router setting).

If that does not solve your issue, your winsocket might be corrupt. Follow these steps to fix it:
Click the Windows Start button.
Type Cmd in the Start Search text box and press Ctrl-Shift-Enter (keyboard shortcut to run Command Prompt as Administrator). Click Continue to allow elevation request.
Type netsh winsock reset in the Command Prompt shell, and then press the Enter key.
Type netsh int ipv4 reset in the Command Prompt shell, and then press the Enter key.
If you use ipv6, type netsh int ipv6 reset in the Command Prompt shell, and then press the Enter key.
Note: you may need to run Network Diagnostics afterwards to "repair" your connection after this.
