Day One: Garry's Incident

Day One: Garry's Incident

Where's the UDK which I'm promised in the EULA?
I'm just curious where is this UDK (Unreal Development Kit) that the EULA promises me. Every time the game updates I have to agree to the EULA. See the highlighted parts:

See this screenshot[i.imgur.com]

Epic grants You, for the entire duration of the legal protection of the intellectual property rights of the UDK pursuant to applicable law (subject to Section 7), a limited, personal, non-exclusive, worldwide, non-sublicensable, and non-transferable license to (a) install and use the UDK for the purpose of developing an unlimited number of applications; (b) develop derivative works of the UDK; (c) use derivative works of the UDK developed by You for the purpose of developing an unlimited number of applications.

So, where is my copy of the UDK that I agreed to have? Should I be asking Epic for my copy??!

Also, why does it say that Epic Games, Inc.[i.imgur.com] hold the copyright to this game? I thought Wild Games Studios developed it? I'm soo confused.

Heh...looks like they have used the incorrect EULA. That is most likely the EULA for the UDK.
In your Steam client click on "LIBRARY" at the top, and then on the "TOOLS" drop down.
It's alphabetical, scroll to the bottom, there is your UDK.

I believe that doesn't actually work, and you need to pull it off their website. However, both ways are something that is avaliable to users no matter what games you have.

Yea, What actually gets installed to Steam is a text file telling you to d/l it off their website.
:tank:
If it is true that they haven't written their own eula, then you are technically legally able to reverse engineer the game and do what you want with it.
UDK is free to use. Developers are allowed to publish/sell UDK-created games for free until they meet a certain threshold in sales, but the caveat is the message you see beforehand. It has nothing to do with WGS not creating its own EULA.

Incorrect, the UDK commercial license costs 100$ and after you get 50 000$ in sales, Epic gets 25% of the profits.

There are two possible prerequisites. Its been a while, but i think there is a second option where you get the first 5000 dollars from your game, and then epic will take a cut.

Correct. There are 2 licensing choices, one being the "Free" option until you hit a certain income level upon which they take a cut as you mentioned.
So all they need to do is sell 250 copies, then epic start taking their cut...
