How is this supposed to be played with a controller?
There isn't even a UI for the buttons and I can't manouver in the sub-menus. I thought this had controller support?

Yeah. So retarded. I can't even bind the keys to my 360 controller. LOL! Freaking lame here. Looks like I'd have to Xpadder this cause I can't even use theirs.

I didnt understand either, I think the controls are a work in progress since it says partial support, but this dev is way ahead of most others with pulling it off.

?

The dev is way ahead of other people trying to make controler support for his game? Or do you mean to say the dev is way ahead of other devs is making controler support in games? Either way sounds stupid to me, so is it that or somthing else?

Don't be so offensive. I think what he's trying to say is, that the dev is far behind with the controller-support. This game is like in an alpha/pre-alpha stage.

Someone please bump this thread if the game is playable with a controller.

I'm playing the game with a controller, but I think for some functions might not be implemented like drinking water from the lake so you might have to still use the keyboard on rare occasion. I'd say it definitely has partial controller support though.
I, same above, controller (360) partially support and no help for use in game (QTE display keyboard keys more often than button's controller when you use controler).

Xpadder solves all controller issues.

not quite true.
if the gui is not adapted, quick time events for example can be a pain in the apple!

It is most definitely playable with a controller.

For the record - this is a very long post, and if you don't want to read it, then don't, I'm not asking you to, I'm just trying to be informative and give a full explanation.

I use a Logitech controller that looks like an X360 controller, only with the two directional sticks positioned the way a PS3's are. (The back of the controller says it's a 'Gamepad F310' so)

Using this controller, there are some things I can't do in the main/pause menus - go into the audio options, or, amusingly enough, into the controls options. When I DO go into the 'controls' tab, it just says 'Keyboard & Mouse' even though I'm obviously not using the keyboard and mouse.

Despite all of this, the game plays fine with the controller. If I start playing the game WITH the controller, then when I approach items that I can pick up, it will tell me what button to press WITH the controller to pick it up, ("Hold Y"). It does not, however, if you've started a new game, tell you what buttons to press to do things like fight and block. These things, AT THE MOMENT, seem to be trial-and-error discovery things.

But I found it very very simple to figure out what buttons needed to be pressed to do whatever I needed.

If you want, I could tell you what buttons do what on my own controller. I don't think you can re-bind any controls with the controller, but as long as you can figure out what buttons do what you should be good --- but other comments here are correct, there's only technically 'partial' controller support, which probably means that they've only been able to implement the use of a controller itself, and haven't been able to get the game to tell you what buttons do what JUST YET.

So, my controller works like this:
Y is my 'use' button -- so Y does what E on the keyboard does, essentially.
X seems to be my reload button -- at least I'm pretty sure, I don't use guns often.
A is jump, that's fairly simple.
B is to crouch, just tap it once and you'll crouch, tap again and you'll stand up.

Right Control Stick turns camera, allowing you to look up down and around.
Left Control Stick moves you forward and backward, and strafes left and right. Also, if you click the control stick's button and hold it, it will make you sprint.

Left Bumper (LB) is Block (hold it, obviously), making it the equivalent to the F key.
Left Trigger (LT) Is the equivalent to right-clicking with the mouse, which makes you hit things with the blunt end of whatever weapon you're holding.
Right Bumper (RB), I'm not sure of just yet, it could be the drink key, I haven't had a chance to use it JUST yet.
Right Trigger (RT) is to shoot your weapon or slice with the knife/sword, making it the equivalent to the left-click.

The Control Pad has basically the same use as scrolling up and down with the mouse - the various directions on the control pad switch you through various weapons.

Start Button - Opens the Inventory Screen. Once here, you can press RT, RB, LT, and LB to switch between the inventory/crafting/missions screens, and while in crafting once you select the items you want to craft with, if you press B you'll craft said items - usually, WHILE crafting, it tells you what buttons to press WITH the controller the same way it tells you what to press on the keyboard.

Select Button - Opens the pause/main menu. You can scan up and down the list with the control stick, and even select some with A, but in the options it seems like you can't go through them (at least not yet), but everything else works fine.

Other than Drink, which is probably what the Right Bumper button is used for, all of the controls can be done on this controller. I don't know about any other controllers, but at the VERY least, that's how my Logitech one works -- and, again, if I'm using my controller, when the game prompts me to pick things up or use them, it tells me what button to press ON the controller.

SO. The short explanation??: YES, this game CAN be played with a controller.

I apologize to those of you who are impatient and won't read this and think I'm a pompous nutjob for posting such a long post, but I feel it's important to fully explain everything. And maybe this will help someone later who can't figure the controls out, or something like that. I'm sorry if you think I'm irritating for making such a long post.

I'm also sorry if I HAVE irritated or offended you by making this long post. Don't read it if you don't want, I'm not forcing you to.
