A message from the Phoenix Team to the community

From the very start, Phoenix Online has been very community driven studio, we started out as a group of King’s Quest fans with no experience in game development. We knew how much we loved the point-and-click genre and one day decided to create a freeware fan-made sequel to King’s Quest. This project became the Silver Lining, which is still available on our website completely free. We like to think this was our first community victory; a group of people brought together by their wish for closure on the beloved franchise.

During the development process of The Silver Lining, we were faced with a cease and desist letter from Activision. We were shocked, confused and had no idea what to do! Once again, the community came to our aid, contacting Activision, asking them to continue our freeware project. They accepted and this was the second victory brought by you, the community.

As our group grew, we decided to create a new project, one not based off of existing adventure game classics, but instead a game of our own creation, this came to be Cognition: An Erica Reed Thriller. Taking on a project as large as Cognition would require more than we could give and so we created a Kickstarter campaign, hoping we could somehow get all the tools we’d need to make the game. Once again, the community came to our aid, allowing us to not only reach our goal but also funding supplemental stretch goals! This was our third community victory.

Finally came Steam Greenlight, it was a long grueling process, lasting nearly a year, but on June 28th 2013, once again you, the community, came through for us. Cognition was Greenlit and it was all thanks to you.

Phoenix Online is extremely lucky to have a community as strong and passionate as all of you, you made us what we are today, you helped us overcome so much and thanks to you, we have achieved this moment.

Hi, grats on releasing on Steam! Just hope you will provide better options for people that purchased seperate episodes elsewhere, to avoid double-paying (much as I'm willing to pay again for the whole thing) it'd still be best to offer a few different options so people can have the complete thing! Hey there Quillsaga,

If you bought the game through our store or if you were a Kickstarter backer you should've received a Steam key yesterday, if you didn't please check your Spam folders and if it still isn't there you can contact us here: [e-mail]


If you bought it through any bundle, then you will receive a STEAM key automatically once we send them to every bundle website we were featured in.

Finally, if you bought it through any other means like Gamersgate, then please forward us your receipt to [e-mail] and we'll send you your key ASAP.

I, i bought the groupees capsule computers and i activate the game on desura, but you give steam keys from groupees?

Yeah the main thing is that I'm wondering how the separate episodes will be handled, as I assume that the keys you give Groupees and the like are only for the exact episode(s) we bought, so since I bought 1 and 2, I will only receive 1 and 2 on Steam, leaving me no option to purchase 3 and 4? I could be wrong, so a clarification would be really appreciated, thank you! :)

Oh sure Sorry if i'm taking a while to answer stuff, there's a lot of questions being asked and we're checking everything we can.

When you receive your STEAM keys you'll get a code for the episodes you bought and you can dowload them invidually, however, because STEAM only sells Cognition as a single package you will also receive a discount code for Cognition based on how many episodes you've bought (meaning the more episodes you own the greater the discount).

I hope this helps and again, sorry if I'm taking a while to answer :P

Been one hell of a ride. Still remember reluctantly being new to and signing up to Kickstarter for the first time almost 2 years ago for this. So to now look back after pledging to 90+ other projects so far, It's amazing and somewhat special to see this one inparticular finaly up here on steam - especially after seeing it be turned down month after month from Greenlight.

....so...whats next in the future for Phoenix Online?
I Haven't played the last episode just yet so I'm unsure how it ends, but I did notice this is called 'Season One' on Steam.... ;)

As for upcoming projects, right now we're working on Jane Jensen's Moebius and of course, we still need to finish episode 5 of TSL :P

Second off, I have liked this game from the first frame I saw. Love it especially since Im getting back into adventure gaming.
Third, I look foward to getting key from my usual places (Groupees, Etc) but I havent heard any mention of key for Bundle in a Box. Will I be getting keys for that bundle?

Got the first 2 episodes in the 2nd IndieGala Weekly, i assume Steam keys will be send to them as well?
The loyalty discount is great and i will probably end up buying the season pass because of that.

Thank you everyone for the love and support, it's been quite a journey for the Phoenix staff but we're very happy we've come this far and we're very lucky you guys are as patient and kind towards the team and all the little problems here and there.

I just wanted to give an update regarding the bundles - We've got keys for kickstarter and phoenix store users sent out already. Also, keys for IndieGameStand, Indie Royale, IndieBundle and now Groupees. IndieGala is still pending, but as soon as they contact us back we will get it taken care of.

Yep, Indiegala bundle purchases are also eligible for STEAM keys :)
