If they ever implement a item weight system, then running around with a lot of heavy gear could raise your strength. If I'm running around with 40 pounds of rocks in my bag, I'm bound to get stronger after that. Just make it take the same amount of time as raising athleticism or something.
What about a drying rack or garden? Are they pointless in a survival game too because they make finding food easier?
This is exactly what gave me the idea. I've gotten to where I just keep making base after base so I actually have a reason to cut down the trees. I don't even have to cut down a lot of trees to up strength just have to cut down two right after I wake up in the morning and it does the strength gain check. At this point it's just a chore and I've just built an island base. It doesn't have trees and sometimes I get stoned and just like to chill on my little island and think about stuff. Then I have to swim to shore before going to bed to make sure I'll be able to cut two-three trees in the morning.
And as far as the athleticism goes, it just takes way too long right now to raise at all and something to enhance your exercise routine would make it a lot less tedious and help with time management. 5 min hunting, 5 min exercise, 5 min scav, 5 min weights, umteen sneaking back and forth between your base(s)
It doesn't have to be that fantastic that you would make an afk macro and even if you did you wouldn't want mutants to come strolling past your base. The equipment could have a maximum limit of 20 points on the tree cut counter, making you have to do the weights every 2 days if you don't want to cut trees. Or it could require a rope that would be used as pulley, which could snap after so many reps and need replacing.
You could easily leave your computer? Who said it wouldn't be an interactive process just like everything else in the game? Because it wasn't me. Furthermore, overexertion should still apply. If you work out too long you lose strength.
Also, nothing would be keeping you from continuing to do it the impractical way so I don't see how this even affects you in the slightest.
