Weights
Maybe instead of having to cut trees right before the strength progression check we could have alternatives to upping strength like a weights item.

Also, perhaps there could be an armor with weights that increases athleticism gains while they're equipped.

That's pointless in a survival game

I agree about some type of craftable weights to increase strength. I guess they thought it would be convenient to build strength while building your base. The thing is once I'm done building my base and destroying a part of the forest, I don't want to make another part of the island a barren wasteland just to keep raising it.

If they ever implement a item weight system, then running around with a lot of heavy gear could raise your strength. If I'm running around with 40 pounds of rocks in my bag, I'm bound to get stronger after that. Just make it take the same amount of time as raising athleticism or something.

That's an interesting perspective considering I've never even heard of another survival game that had these mechanics in play. How does interacting with an item for a set amount of time take away from your experience? You're interacting with an object for a set amount of time to increase your strength as it is now. That's barely different.
What about a drying rack or garden? Are they pointless in a survival game too because they make finding food easier?

This is exactly what gave me the idea. I've gotten to where I just keep making base after base so I actually have a reason to cut down the trees. I don't even have to cut down a lot of trees to up strength just have to cut down two right after I wake up in the morning and it does the strength gain check. At this point it's just a chore and I've just built an island base. It doesn't have trees and sometimes I get stoned and just like to chill on my little island and think about stuff. Then I have to swim to shore before going to bed to make sure I'll be able to cut two-three trees in the morning.

And as far as the athleticism goes, it just takes way too long right now to raise at all and something to enhance your exercise routine would make it a lot less tedious and help with time management. 5 min hunting, 5 min exercise, 5 min scav, 5 min weights, umteen sneaking back and forth between your base(s)

I like the idea of getting strength by chopping down trees, fighting and carrying logs. If you just sit in your house and use some kind of weights, you can easily leave your computer and Let this guy gain a lot of strength. This would really ruin it. It shouldn't be that easy.

Well you'd have to do some action to lift, kinda like GTA San Andreas (damn they really should remaster this game) where you had to press SPACE BAR and CTRL simultanously to lift. And yea it would be boring, but lifting is boring in the first place lol. And when you're in a forest, able to build a whole forteress, you should be able to craft some weights to fit up

I too would like some sort of constructed exercise equipment. I only usually use a few logs for a small cabin, bonfires a bench and some gates. The rest of the game I'm just going into the forest and deforesting a days worth of trees in a random area to gain strength for a week or 2.

It doesn't have to be that fantastic that you would make an afk macro and even if you did you wouldn't want mutants to come strolling past your base. The equipment could have a maximum limit of 20 points on the tree cut counter, making you have to do the weights every 2 days if you don't want to cut trees. Or it could require a rope that would be used as pulley, which could snap after so many reps and need replacing.

Those are good ideas. Maintenence would counter bossgamerjesse's complaint of it being "too easy". As if cutting trees is some difficult task.

You could easily leave your computer? Who said it wouldn't be an interactive process just like everything else in the game? Because it wasn't me. Furthermore, overexertion should still apply. If you work out too long you lose strength.

Also, nothing would be keeping you from continuing to do it the impractical way so I don't see how this even affects you in the slightest.
